skill set, but will in fact have a number of
specializations.”
(Deb Logan and Regina Casonata – Gartner - CIO Alert: You Need
Information Professionals)

Breadth vs depth
Most certifications are very deep – but very
narrow
PMP: project management
CRM: records management
CDIA+: imaging
This leads to silos
17. Copyright © AIIM | All rights reserved.17
Breadth vs depth
Most training programs are very focused
Example: AIIM courses
ECM
ERM
Taxonomy & Metadata
Information Governance
Etc.

Hinweis der Redaktion We have over the last few years seen a growing debate about this from end-users (like BP), vendors and analysts (like Gartner and Forrester)…
One example;
Deb Logan and Regina Casonata from Gartner published around 6 months ago a report called “CIO Alert: You Need Information Professionals”
I quote:
“Professional roles focused on information management will be different to that of established IT roles….
An "information professional" will not be one type of role or skill set, but will in fact have a number of specializations.” This profession needs a body of knowledge - what do they need to know about mobile apps, taxonomies, folksonomies, social networking, master data management, etc.
We also saw a need to certify understanding that allows individuals to demonstrate their ability to solve an organization's existing information-related problems as well as plan for the future. And what is the feedback so far….
"Anyone in IT or in an information related discipline today should be thinking about it."
Ken Bisconti (Vice President, Enterprise Content Management Products and Strategy, IBM Software Group)
“Every information management professional and information architect should become a Certified Information Professional.”
J. Kevin Parker (SharePoint SME)
“The Certified Information Professional certification is the best way to move your organization to the modern world!”
Catherine Webber (President, Smart Government)
“The AIIM Information Certification clearly connects all aspects of content, people, data and processes.”
Vikram Setia (Managing Partner, infoMENTUM Limited)
We did a survey in early 2011 amongst 1450+ industry experts to kick-off the development of the new certification.
The survey respondents were asked to prioritize the knowledge areas identified by the Forrester report “A Snapshot Of Today’s Content And Collaboration Professional,” November 3, 2010.
The skills analysis was done by SMEs in multiple workshops
Development was done according to ISO17024 - an ISO standard for how to certify professionals
The new Certified Information Professional Exam is available from Prometric exam centers across the world This module is part of the Access/Use knowledge domain, one of six within the Certification program. In it, we will cover the basic components of enterprise search:
Crawler
Index
Query engine
Human-powered directories
Hybrids
The exam is available from Prometric test centers across the world www.prometric.com/aiim
The 2 hours one-time, single-part proctored exam has 100 multiple-choice questions, electronically scored.
Price is USD 265 – but we can reduce this if you have 50+ staff that should become certified
AIIM is not requiring candidates to have any minimum education or experience before taking the exam, but recommending some years of relevant experience or education.
Certification valid for 3 years, and then must retake or take CEUs to maintain.
