Editor's Notes
- To to www. Wallwisher.com and register for a free account by filling in the information on the left side of the screen. Click “Create my Account” once you fill in your information. You can build a wall without registering, but registering will allow you to save all your “walls” for future reference. The next time you visit wallwisher.com, simply Login on the right side of the screen and clicke the “Let me in” button.
- You will be redirected to this screen to begin editing your wall. There is a box in the middle of the screen where you can set your preferences. You may create a unique web address/url by typing into the white box or wallwisher will create one for you. Decide who can view and post. There is a box that allows you to approve posts before they show up on the wall. That option is good for a school environment. If selected, posts will not show up on the wall until you approve them. You can approve or dissaprove them by logging into the account, navigating to the wall and then you will be prompted to approve or dissaprove. Once approved, they will show up on the wall.
- This is what mine looked lilke after I finished filling in the preferences section.
- Now it’s time for the fun part. You get to design your wall. The rectangular box on the right of the wall allows you to choose a theme. Cllick on the theme that you like and try out a few. Once you find the one you like, it is time for the next step – adding a title and question.
- At the top, there is a place to add a Title and Subtitle. Click over the word title and a dialogue box will open so you may type your title or question. Fill in both the Title and Subtitle are with your questions. Remember, this is what your viewer will see when they open up your wall. You may want to put instructions on how to postin the subtitle are if this is the first wall your students have used.
- To add a picture, you may “Click to select an image or Browse for one of your own. If you click to select an image, the choices will open up on the screen. To select, just click on the desired picture. If you want to insert one of your own pictures, that is already saved on your computer, click on the Upload your own and then Browse. Beware that it must be a .JPG, .PNG, .GIF and can only be 512 KB.
- The picture you selected will be displayed on the upper left of your wall. Now you may click “done” and you wallwisher will be created.
- This is my wall. It is ready for some interaction from students, collegues, or the world.
- To post a message, all your user has to do is double click on the wall and write their message in under 160 characters. They may also add a link to an image, audio, or video by adding the url address in the space provided. They must click the green OK button for the message to stick to the wall.
- Here I have added the web address for my blog along with a message.
- Once posted, it will look this way. If I click on the shape where it says “view”, the website will open up.
- This is the url address that I posted on the wall and when clicked it opened up my page.
- To share the wall with others so they can post, give them the web address/url. Once they go to the web address, they will be able to post on the wall. Remember, if you have checked the box in preferences so that you must approve posts, their post will not show up until you approve it.
- Sometimes posts may overlap. This can be fixed by holding your curser over the dark part above the post. A four sided arrow will appear and the posts can be moved around on the wall. Also, you may use the refresh button in order to see all of the posts if a whole class is posting at once. You will not see all of them until you refresh your browser. Also, I find it best to use Mozilla Firefox or a newer version of Internet Explorer.
- This wall was created at the end of one of my Web 2.0 workshops. I wanted to find out what participants learned in the workshop.
- In order to see the walls I have already created, I just log in to wallwisher and a display of my walls appears. I can click on the red link to open the wall, moderate, edit or delete. I can also Build a New wall from this screen.
