DESCRIPTION:
The Associate of Science in Nursing Program is designed to prepare students to become
an effective nurse clinician capable of sound clinical judgment in a variety of healthcare
settings and in the community. The curriculum enables students to acquire principles and
knowledge from natural and behavioral sciences and blends this coursework with the
science of nursing. The integration of the theory and clinical practice is designed to assist
the student in the development of critical thinking and problem solving skills. The program
is designed to prepare the graduate to sit for the National Council Licensure Examination
(NCLEX) for registered nurses.
OBJECTIVE:
Graduates of the Associate of Science in Nursing Program will have learned the theory
and had the practical experience in lab and clinical settings covering the legal and ethical
decision-making in the promotion of health in the community. Our graduate students will
demonstrate safe, competent care through the development of an individualized plan of
care that adheres to the accepted standards of care, and scope of practice with the use of
therapeutic interventions. Students will be able to apply the principle of communication to
establish and maintain therapeutic relationships with clients and their families, as well as a
professional relationship with members of various healthcare teams. Communicate clearly
and concisely in both the written and oral form to ensure continuity of care for individuals,
families or groups. Will synthesize the knowledge from the natural and behavioral sciences
to inform the decision making process regarding the clients plan of care utilizing the
nursing process. Thus graduates will develop, implement and evaluate teaching plans for
individual clients, families or groups, based on teaching-learning needs, and Function with
accountability and commitment to practice nursing in accordance with standards of
practice, legal, ethical guidelines, and within the scope of practice for a registered nurse.

4. Program Outline
CREDENTIAL ISSUED:
Associate of Science in Nursing Degree
PROGRAM DURATION:
To receive an Associate of Science Degree in Nursing, students must complete 46
semester credits in their major, 12 semester credits in Prerequisite courses and 15
semester credits in General Education for a total of 73 semester credits. This degree
program can be completed in 18 months (full time program of 1,680 hours).
Students that already have the required General Education and Prerequisite credits will
only need to complete the 46 semester credits in their major, completing the program in 13
months (full time program of 1,230 hours).
Nursing Major Duration: 46 semester credits – 11 months
General Education Courses Duration: 15 semester credits – 3 months
Prerequisite Courses Duration: 12 semester credits – 2 and ½ months

7. GENERAL ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
Nursing Program applicants must complete the following admission requirements:
Submit official high school transcripts or G.E.D. certificate
Submit official college transcripts for all courses taken for transfer. In case of applicants
with foreign postsecondary education an original Joseph Silny’s translation/evaluation is
required
All classes considered for transfer must have a minimum of 2.5 G.P.A.
TEAS-V entrance exam taken within the last year with a score. of 68% or above
Interchange English Placement Test within the last year with a score of 68% or above is
required for applicants that do not have a high school diploma, college or university degree
from an institution licensed by the United States Department of Education
Present three references with contact information
Complete a program application and submit an application fee of $50
One page written essay

8. GENERAL ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
Candidates that successfully complete the requirements listed above must submit the
following in order to be considered for enrollment (all at applicant’s expense)
Florida Department of Enforcement Criminal background check
Current physical examination performed by an MD, DO or ARNP
Proof of following vaccinations and/or titers: Hepatitis B series, MMR (Measles, Mumps,
Rubeola, Rubella) and VZV (Varicella) vaccine, Diphtheria, Poliomyelitis.
Negative two-step PPD result. Students with a positive PPD result must submit a negative
Chest X-Ray radiology report confirming a chest x-ray every two subsequent years.
Proof of tetanus booster within ten years
Negative urinary drug screen indicating a 10 panel drug screen sent directly to the school
Valid CPR certification from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
