Social interaction between students, co-workers and business men has taken society as a whole and it has been said that the use of smart phones has decreased the etiquette between people and is now being revisited to fix this problem. Blackberry and iPhone have also at the same time had a decrease in common courtesy. Things like answering a phone call, replying to messages or chatting on an IM during a meeting, and consistently checking your phone during dinner. Even sending a messages to someone who u are sitting near to is causing a problem today with our social interaction and Communication between each other.
The use of Smart Phones is definitely sophisticated and can to satisfy all communication needs. However, this tool can lead to addiction, disturbing concentration, and even robbing of sleep. This can lead to a huge loss and reduced productivity. This is very serious for our education system and the youth of today. The youth have become so reliant on the small devices that they have become lazy and some what unproductive. Research by a team from the MIT Sloan School of Management in 2007 showed the use of the BlackBerry has a negative impact in the workplace, such as not meeting deadlines due to the concentration of which is divided between work and the smart phone.
Did you know that your smartphones and Blackberries can give you facial wrinkles? We didn’t know this either but a doctor in good old England named Dr Jean-Louis Sebagh told The Daily Mail that younger people are turning to Botox to get rid of wrinkles brought about by their constant use of smartphones. What’s that again? Young people + smartphones = wrinkles?Apparently, it’s a new phenomenon courtesy of today’s new information technologies. According to Dr.Sebagh, peering at the small screen of your iPhone or Blackberry “causes your face to scrunch up, creating an area of tension around and between the brows” which then develop into premature wrinkles. We honestly don’t know what to make of this. Initially, we thought this was a scheme to get more people to use Botox but maybe there’s something to what she’s saying, no? The good doctor is backed by another person, beauty therapist Nichola Joss, who claims to have also noticed the phenomenon (of young people with wrinkly faces) among her clients. She told The Daily Mail: “I’ve noticed a huge difference over the past 18 months in my clients’ faces – it’s the constant peering intently down at that mini screen. It’s the same with an iPhone.”So maybe this is a timely reminder to all of you iPhone and Blackberry fanatics to reduce your use of this devices. If you can’t, well there’s always Botox.
Studies in 2006 confirmed that what optometrists had been warning us about for years regarding computers might also be true for PDAs and smart phones as well. With small screens, appropriately small fonts, and dim lights to conserve battery power, PDA phones and smart phones can cause eye problems for those who spend an excessive number of hours straining to look at the tiny screen. Some opticians have attributed a trend of people requiring reading glasses at a younger age to the popular use of PDAs and smart phones.
The scary part about Smart Phones is that they can become highly addictive. People don’t know how to function with out it and become dependent on them 24 hours a day 7 days a week. Research by a team of Rutgers University states that just like drugs people need to get help and the steps taken to help these people is the same steps used to help recovering addicts/alcoholics, the treatment of therapy. A lot of people get pleasure that arises when receiving e-mail, SMS, or messages identified. “Crackberry”, the term for the enthusiast BlackBerry uses is used.
