Guaimaca, Honduras was founded in 1682, and is the municipal center for 13 aldeas. One of these aldeas is Chelón. Mr. John Showalter has pioneered a Mennonite mission effort back in the mountains of the Chelón aldea since 1995. The Mennonite families who live there are determined to become financially self-sustainable. Since 1995, they have tried many different ventures. They have tried dairies, only to have their cows stolen and killed by robbers. They have tried raising produce, but unreliable weather patterns have made those efforts not-so-promising. Several years ago, some families decided to try their hand at coffee. Again Mr. Showalter has pioneered in this effort. The climate is ideal for coffee, and with an altitude of 4,000 ft. they are well situated to offer the world’s best in Honduran coffee. They have found a niche that promises to provide a sustainable income for their families. Here is a group of dedicated folks who are prepared to change the fame of Honduran coffees. They are doing this through careful husbandry, (naturally, shade grown coffees) careful processing, and final preparation to American standards. Café Chelón is SHG classified (Strictly High Grown), coming from a chilly altitude of 4,000 ft. These coffees are washed and sun dried, and have the following characteristics: mild acidity, with very pleasant floral notes and sweet aftertaste. For this first introduction into the US markets, Café Chelón will be an estate coffee, coming directly from Mr. Showalter’s farm. With only 50 sacks available we believe this coffee will move fast. You can purchase this coffee today for only $2.35 per lb. Café Chelón ships in April 2011. You may reserve your lot now with only $.25 per lb. Add to cart. P.S. This is a super coffee for roasters who cater to church groups or peoples who make a conscious effort at correctly channeling the money they spend toward a worthy cause! JavAlliance wishes to rapidly expand the offerings of these fine coffees from Chelón to roasters across the US. There will be very much of this coffee available in the near future! JavAlliance is working with a Capital group to fund the crop for Mr. Showalter, and is also working with an organization that is interested in financing the needed equipment to process the coffee to American standards. JavAlliance will keep you updated as these efforts bear fruit, and as the community in the mountains of Chelón progresses towards sustainable living. You may contact Mr. John Showalter direct at 011-504-757-1977 or a teamember@javalliance.com or call toll free: 1-800-580-3096 Be assured that you will not reach a high pressured salesman. You will either be in contact with the grower himself or with a very helpful and informative JavAlliance member!
