  1. Good morning everybody! It is an honor to be invited in this seminar dubbed as Personality Enhancement and Communication Effectiveness. In behalf of the management team of SM Department Store, we would like to congratulate your group for coming up with an activity that aims to develop the competencies of the members. My task here is to share something about Personality Development. As professionals, and of course, with all the books that you come face to face with everyday, I know that you have already mastered the essentials of Personality Development. So what we will discuss is just a recap of what you know. In the process, I know that all of us will learn from each other. So I encourage to keep your inputs coming too, so this meeting will be more productive for both of us. With our expertise, we will impart necessary points on Personality Development, its importance to all of us. We will discuss some guidelines on power dressing, while we are having a make-over session.
  2. But before we start, I would like you to share some facts regarding your profession. I will flash some statements, and I want you to help me by confirming whether the statement is true of false. Indeed they are your external customers and it is a fact that everyday you, assist people coming from different groups.
  3. Right after helping somebody who is in dire need for a research material, do you feel satisfied at the end of the day? But what do you feel if that customer gets so irritating, maybe they want to beat their deadline. How do you handle them?
  4. In films and in some Nickelodeon series, librarians are being stereotyped. Why is that?
  5. But with the advanced electronic resources, the concept of libraries are being changed too. Librarians are not just confined with books, but you are getting techno – savvy too. Even titles are being changed too. We now call you information professionals. Your traditional tasks are being combined with tasks involving quickly changing technology too. So as we adapt with the fast paced technology, it is important to continuously develop our image and personality too.
  6. With this, there is no escape, we are always relaying information about us. We communicate, we tell something about us, even if we are not saying a word. And the world responds according to the manner which you think, feel and behave. If for example, at the library, you treat your external customer well, what will they do (keep coming back). What will you do if you see an unkempt man in the street, with disheveled hair, and he is trying to sell something to you, will you buy from him? Going back to the library, if there are some noisy kids, and instead of just asking them to keep quiet, you humiliated them..? What will they do (walk out of the library and worse, laugh at you and call you names). What we do, how we look, what we say and how we say it… we are talking about one’s personality.
  7. Personality can be inherited, it can be acquired, it defines your way of thinking. It dictates how you will face different situations. According to modern management concept, it is the brand image of an individual. Like a product, you consider the packaging, the presentation, the selling attributes, the price = the Brand Character or Personality. The core potential… Whatever you sow, you will reap.
  8. Why is there a need to develop one’s personality? In every performance appraisal, your boss would always consider aspects of your personality. You will have a chance for promotion. You will get a lot of commendations. You will have more friends. Your external customers will be fond of you and you will be happier. When you change your personality, your attitude.. The attitude of the society towards you changes too.
  9. That’s the good news, personality can be developed, but as we know, it cannot be changed overnight, since there are a lot of considerations.
  10. But let us focus to the factor that can easily be noticed. How can you leave a favorable first impression? (External Appearance / speech / Mannerisms) Research shows that lasting first impressions are formed is as little as 4 minutes or less, If you fail t make a good impression, it becomes more difficult to sell, persuade and to influence people to your way of thinking.

  13. First thing is assessment. Visualization is important, in which you see in your mind, the person that you want to be. Affirmation is a repetition of the statement.
  14. Be Charming – be gracious, warm and sincere Smile – Remember, action and reaction. 1 st impressions – Everything you say and do counts on the 1 st introduction. It will determine the reception that you will get next time. Look like a star – It is important to acquire a flair for dressing. When you are well dressed, you become confident. It is worth the investment. If it means that your clothes will give you pride in how you look. It is not always a question of money, it is a question of good judgment and taste.
