How to Land a Job in
                 Hotel Management
Hotel management can be a rewarding career choice for the right
individual, but it can also be difficult to enter into this profession.
Like any other career, landing your first job within the hotel
management industry can be a bit tricky. Thankfully, there are a few
steps you can take that will help increase your chances of being hired
in a hotel management capacity.

Earn a College Degree
Nowadays, many employers require a college degree when seeking
new employees. This is especially true for management type positions
within the hospitality industry. Earning a degree in business,
marketing or hospitality management will place you on a fast track to
landing your dream job within the hotel management industry.

By having a college degree that is directly related to hotel
management, you will prove to potential employers that you have the
knowledge required to handle the day to day responsibilities of the
position. Having a keen business sense will allow you to earn one of
these college degrees which in turn will enable you to excel in a hotel
management position.

Network
Oftentimes, landing a job is not as much about your knowledge and
skills as it is who you know. Networking is one of the best ways to find
a new job regardless of the industry. Attending career fairs and
hospitality industry trade shows are excellent ways to meet employers
and other professionals in the hotel management industry. Gathering
contacts at these events will allow you to stay connected with those
who may be close to a job opening they could tell you about in the
future.

Social networks are another great resource to use when looking to
network within the hospitality industry. Connecting with other hotel
management professionals on these social networks will give you the
opportunity to ask them for advice when it comes to landing a job
within their field of expertise. Using the advice given to you by those
who are already successful in the hotel management field will give you
a leg up on your competition when searching for a new job.

Work Your Way Up The Corporate Ladder
While your dream job may be related to hotel management, it may be
necessary to take a lower level, entry position at first and work your
way up the company ladder. Many companies will promote from
within, making it very possible for you to become a hotel manager
later in your career. By gaining valuable experience within the
hospitality industry through a low level, entry position, you will be
able to use this real world experience to your advantage down the road
when a management position opens up. Proving to your employer
that you are a hard worker who consistently produces great results will
surely put you on the short list for a management position within that
company.
Like any other industry, landing a hotel management job can be a
bit tricky at times. However, if you earn a college degree in a field of
study directly related to hotel management, network as much as
possible and are willing to accept a low level, entry position with the
goal of working your way up the company, you can easily land your
dream job within the hotel management industry.
