More often than not, countries think they will win
wars right away. Sadly, that is rarely the case.
The Spanish-American War only lasted four
months.
Americans fought both in Cuba and the
Philippines, another island possession of Spain
America completely dominated the Spanish in the
war.
More Americans died from malaria than fighting.

The U.S. encouraged
Panama to revolt from
Columbia. As payment
for supporting them, we
were allowed to build
and operate the Panama
Canal.

Increasingly, the U.S. began intervening in
local issues in South and Central
America.
This led to an economic imperialism for
America in the Western Hemisphere.
