75. 4 We must work the works of him who sent me while it is day; night is coming, when no one can work.
76. 5 As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world.”
77. Back then, sin was equated with suffering or aliment – the disciples supposed that
78. This man sinned greatly – and therefore, he was blind from birth
79. This man’s parents sinned greatly – and therefore, the man was blind from birth
80. Jesus reveals in v. 3 that while sin is always destructive in nature and can result in suffering, the reason for this man’s blindness from birth is so that
81. The works of God might be displayed in him, meaning
82. Prophecy could be fulfilled concerning Jesus being the Messiah – Isaiah 29:18 – “In that day the deaf shall hear the words of a book, and out of their gloom and darkness the eyes of the blind shall see.”
83. That the Will of His Father would be fulfilled – John 6:40 – “For this is the will of my Father, that everyone who looks on the Son and believes in him should have eternal life.”
85. We might work the works of Him who sent while I’m here on this earth – while it is day
86. Night is coming – meaning His crucifixion, when He can no longer show Israel that the Messiah has come
87. As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world – As long as I am alive on the earth, I must do everything I can to bring people to faith in Me
88. So here we see the reason for Jesus healing, or giving someone the strength to endure until the end with joy in Him
89. So that it will proclaim He is the Savior of the World and the Son of God
90. To call individuals to turn from their sins and trust in Him and have eternal life
91. To bring us who have believed in Him back to the relationship with God that would have always been if sinned had never entered the world
92. To bring glory to God – meaning to display the greatness of God, His holiness, the fact that He far above and beyond any of His creation, and He desires that we know and experience this greatness
119. Isaiah 40:30-31 – “Even youths shall faint and be weary, and young men shall fall exhausted; but they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.”
121. 2 Corinthians 1:3-4 – “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.”
122. 1 Peter 5:10 – “And after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you.”
124. Titus 3:3-7 – “For we ourselves were once foolish, disobedient, led astray, slaves to various passions and pleasures, passing our days in malice and envy, hated by others and hating one another. Three times I pleaded with the Lord about this, that it should leave me. But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me. 154. If they were to admit that, the Pharisees would have had to give up their authority, and how the people viewed them as righteous and holy – the people would have seen them as prideful and arrogant and so in their anger they refused to believe this man’s story
155. The blind man shows them their pride in saying that if anyone is a worshipper of God and does His Will, God listens to them and so if Jesus was not from God, He couldn’t have given the man his sight
156. The Pharisees cast him out the synagogue – he was excommunicated and he could no longer associate with anyone he previously knew

Jesus says in verse 39 – “For judgment I came into this world, that those who do not see may see, and those who see may become blind.” 40 Some of the Pharisees near him heard these things, and said to him, “Are we also blind?” 41 Jesus said to them, “If you were blind, you would have no guilt; but now that you say, ‘We see,’ your guilt remains.”
166. Jesus came to cause those who think they everything to become blind, and those who know their blind and helpless to see.
169. He does so in order people to repent and know Him as the God of Love, the all-knowing Teacher, and the all sufficient Healer
170. My Story – It’s tempted to think that He doesn’t because of all the suffering we hear about or experience, but if that were true, I wouldn’t be here speaking to you right now. If God didn’t heal today
171. The pneumonia that I had ten minutes after I was born would have caused me to suffocate and would have killed me
172. The machine the doctors put me on to help me breathe would have failed
173. operation they performed that had never been done on a baby before in the Northwest would have failed
174. The second operation I had when I was six years old that was intended to help me walk like everyone else would have left me paralyzed for life
175. if the faith and determination I had to overcome and walk again had not been given to me by God, then I would have never been healed, and He would never have been glorified
177. Is why I was healed, and others who I love were not
178. I know it has to do with God being most glorified by strengthen them until then end
179. I know that nothing God does is wrong – He’s always righteous, always holy, and his understanding and knowledge is unsearchable – but I still don’t fully understand it
183. Are home – death is nothing more for a Christian, then going home
184. And that home is a home where there’s no pain, no suffering, no hardship, and where they are One and at peace with the King of Kings and Lord of Lords
190. Isaiah prophesied this in Isaiah 61:1 – “The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me, because the Lord has anointed me to bring good news to the poor; he has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to those who are bound.”
191. If you believe in Christ, you are an adopted son or daughter of God
192. You then have a right to approach God boldly, knowing that He is God, that He works all things for good to those who love Him, and confess to Him your anger and frustration
201. We have a responsibility to each other (as seen in James 5) Read James 5:13-16, 19, 20 - 13 Is anyone among you suffering? Let him pray. Is anyone cheerful? Let him sing praise. 14 Is anyone among you sick? Let them call on the church, and let the church pray over them, anointing them with oil in the name of the Lord. 15 And the prayer of faith will save the one who is sick, and the Lord will raise them up. And if they have committed sins, they will be forgiven. 16 Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working. Verse 19 – My friends, if anyone among you wanders from the truth and someone brings them back, 20 let them know that whoever brings back a sinner from their wandering will save their soul from death and will cover a multitude of sins.
202. We have a responsibility to pray for those who are suffering, and to go before God as His son or as His daughter in respect because of what He has done through Christ and to bring Him all our concerns and frustrations.
203. We have a responsibility to confess our sins: to find someone we can trust, someone who has been through what we’re going through and to confess our sins to them.
204. We have a responsibility to offer strength to those who need to be lifted up and to give wisdom to those who are struggling.
205. We have a responsibility not to judge one another, but to encourage one another, to check up on each other and continue to encourage each other long after the hardship they’ve been through has passed.
206. And we are able to do this by faith, because God has empowered us to do so, in order that we may know Him as He truly is, and trust in Him as sufficient in all things.
208. Father, I come before you in the name of your Son Jesus Christ, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross and the shame so that “all who look to You and believe in You can eternal life.”
209. This is why you came, so that we could have life and have it more abundantly – life that is content with whatever comes because You work all things for our good. Impress upon us your everlasting love for us.
210. Holy Spirit, help us to be aware of any pride, unbelief or anger, and remind us that because Christ died for us and paid the price for sin, we can now come before You boldly and confess our anger and say that we don’t understand, that we are hurt.
211. Give us, I pray, an understanding of your reason for healing us and for all that you do, so that you can bring us to a full relationship with you. Give us faith to let it all the anger go and be healed and restored, and have life, joy and peace once again.
212. Give us an awareness to encourage those around us, to be a help to those who need healing, to give words of wisdom and of insight, to be strength for those who are overwhelmed and feel like they can’t go on.
213. Fill our hearts with the compassion that you had for the blind man. Empower us by Your Grace, tonight. Let this be a night of healing, and may You be glorified because of it. In Jesus name, Amen.
