I asked 17 people to complete my survey, this will show a good range of results and
hardly have any biased opinions. I will be able to determine an equal view of what
people believe and it won't have an effect on gender, this will give me a good
understanding over all about what people think.

For this question I asked about how people would prefer to watch films. I got an across
the board kind of response so it shows however i release my thriller should get around
the same amount of people viewing it on every format. This is a good thing because if I
could release my thriller across another format at a later date it would increase its
audience by about the same as i would already have. On the other hand, it could be bad
thing because I only have one choice on how i release it and if that choice had no people
viewing it my thriller wouldn't do very well. It's lucky that i have an even spread and it
will mean i won't lose many viewers from not being able to release it on any other
format. Many people would watch thrillers on a range of formats so hopefully it would
turn more people to watching films online. There is a slight decrease on TV this could be
because when thrillers are released on TV the audience have already seen them and
might not want to watch them again.
Comedy seems to be the genre that people who watch online movies like to watch. This
could be because people who are more capable on the computer and who download
things a lot to watch comedies. If they were online watching movies they might not be
too concerned about the image quality or the input into the film; they might just want to
sit and watch the jokes come at them. Online is ideal for this because bad quality and
sound don't necessarily affect the viewing of a comedy. On the other hand, with a thriller
you would want to get the best quality sound and image so when online waiting for films
to buffer and watching in standard definition might not be the best idea because you will
lose some of the quality. Also for building suspense during a thriller waiting for it to
buffer would not be a good way to watch the climax of the movie. This is one of the
downsides and limitations we have. Hopefully we will be able to upload our finished
pieces in HD 720 quality to get the best possible viewing experience.

People who are more interested in watching thrillers would want to have the best
viewing quality and would pay either for the DVD/blu-ray This would be ideal for us to be
able to release it onto blu-ray that way the viewing experience would be perfect.

For this question I wanted to see what people really liked about a thriller and what gets
them most hooked. I was a little surprised by the result, I thought it would be more
along the lines of the protagonist or antagonist because of their acting or the way the
events that happen between the two to get the audience on the edge of their seat. It
turns out it was the location which works well for us because in our thriller we have
planned to shoot in a dark woods with low light. Hopefully our audience will find this
appealing and like our setting.

This question was about the codes and conventions in a film. I wanted to find out what
people picked on and how many people picked up on these things. This is because it is
important to know what to include in your film. If you included no codes or signs in a
movie people would be bored and not have to work little parts out. I personally like
looking for these and thinking about a film so to have these is really interesting and
boosts a films rating for me. In our thriller it would be a good idea to include as most
people pick up on them and seem to know what we are talking about.
In a thriller there are different parts to it that people may enjoy the most and these would have a big
influence on whether they watch it or not. I wanted to know what may be good to play on and adapt
to make into a thriller that people would most want to watch. Psychological horror was the most
popular, this includes imagery that may not be scary or thrilling on a visual sense but with sounds
and camera tricks that make the audience think ‘what was that?’ Also it includes possible true
elements that will stay with the audience and make them think even after the film has finished. In
our thriller this is what we want to achieve along with mystery and suspense so it’s good that the
questionnaire proved my point.

This question was to ask when people would most likely watch a thriller and how comfortable they
were with watching it at certain times or with certain people. People feel differently about watching
potentially scary films at night alone than they would in the middle of the day with a group of friends
or family. Most people answered that they would watch it at home with friends/family. This means
our thriller should appeal to an audience who like to watch in groups and at home. This ties in with
being able to download it as well because if they can get it at home they are more likely to watch it
in large groups expanding our audience.
This is a key question to any film. You see all these new thrillers being released having a happy
ending and the characters living ‘happily ever after’ when this would not be the case usually. This is
why i wanted to find out what people preferred to watch and it turns out my theory was correct and
people prefer to see a negative ending to a film. With a negative ending you don’t see the cliché
ending and the cheesy ending or lines that these cheap low budget films create. With a happy
ending its like a quick way to end the movie, the story could be good and action packed but then
they all lived happily ever after. On the other hand, a good action packed and challenging film with a
devastating ending is much more entertaining.

Lastly, for this question I wanted to know how popular thrillers were now and if people still made
the effort to watch them. There was a variety of results but the majority only watch between 1 and 4
thrillers a month. This means to get people to watch our thriller we have to make sure its really good
and get audience hooked. To do this we would want to make sure we really listened to our audience
research and took on board their comments.
