FIRST ANNUAL CONVOCATION
I congratulate all of you on this very auspicious ceremony of the
convocation of Jaipuria Institute of Management. I must commend
the Institute which has a rich legacy of being in the field of
education since 1945 and has made a significant contribution in
the management education field with four well established
campuses in Lucknow, Noida, Jaipur and Indore. Your students
have attained major positions all over the world. Jaipuria is being
recognized as a reliable name in management education. The
credit for this goes to both the faculty members and the students of
thisinstitute.Forwithoutone,theothercan'tdeliver.
You are among the few shining stars in the field of management
education.Only recentlyI went through an ASSOCHAM report which
concluded that business schools are fast losing recognition in the
corporate world. Only 10 per cent pass outs from management
schools have been found worthy of being employed. Campus
placement has seen a slide of 40 per cent during past four years.
As many as 180 management schools closed down during 2012
only. Another 160 such schools are still struggling for survival.
Thesefactsandfigures arealarming.
We need to find out the reason for this downslide. The report has
attributed this fall due to lack of proper management education. It
seems the management schools are not aware of needs of the
corporate world. There is hardly any coordination between
management institutions and the corporate. This picture of
education is shocking in a country which is being projected as one
oftheemergingeconomicsuperpowers.
The number of business schools has grown three folds during past
five years to 4500. MBA seats too grew four times - from 95
thousand to 3.6 lakh during the same period. But these numbers
don't inspire hope. As job opportunities haven't grown in the same
proportion as management institutes and MBA seats. Andhra
Pradesh alone has 940 management schools and 65000 seats.
This is probably the highest in the country. Being a leader in
quantitydoesn'tnecessarymeanbeingnumberoneinqualitytoo.
Rate of economic growth has steadily declined during past
nine years to reach its lowest point. This obviously impacted
demand of management graduates. Management institutes which
proliferated rapidly in the hope of 8 to 9 per cent growth rate, had to
facetheconsequences.
The students too can't escape their share of blame. Because at the
time of admission, they care only about placement and good salary
package caring two hoots about quality of education of that
institute. In such atmosphere institutes too didn't feel the need to
improve their quality. Their theory-based courses are generally far
from practical needs of the corporate, especially the lack of
communicationskills.Thisshortcomingneedstoberectified.
But hope is yet not lost. You know better that India and China will be
economic superpowers by 2050. India might even overtake China.
But,alookatourpreparationsblightssuchascenario.
Today people like Indira Nooyi and Anshu Jain can be counted on
fingertips who reached the pinnacle of global economy. It's not
enough. We need to have a long list of such names. This will
be possible only when our management schools provide
the best possible education. We need to strengthen our
knowledge-economy to achieve número uno position in global
economy.
This convocation has provided us an opportunity to realize the
dream of shaping a robust India. I am from a leading Media group
and in our world; we often say that country needs good managers'
more than good leaders. People are disappointed with political
leadership, feel that strengthening country's economy through
goodmanagementcanalsosolvemanyotherproblemsplaguingit.
Good strategy, planned preparation and skilled team can lead to
stupendous results. This formula applies equally to corporate and
the government. People now understand this. If instead of
politicians, they are looking at you with hopeful eyes; it not only
augurs well for your profession but also increases the burden of
responsibilitiesonyourshoulders.
I trust students of this institute will live up to these expectations.
I hope to see the glimmer in their eyes, of the dream to make a
strong India, wherever they work. If we can contribute even the
slightest bit in realizing this dream, we would have made our life
andeducationmeaningful.
Congratulationsonceagaintoallofyou.
Chief Guest's Message
Shri Ramesh Chandra Agarwal
Chairman, Dainik Bhaskar Group
1
Shri Ramesh Chandra Agarwal Ji, Chief Guest of the occasion,
Shri Shreevats ji, Vice Chairman, Dr. Pankaj Gupta,
Director General, Dr. J P Upadhyay, Director of the Institute,
distinguished members of Academic Council, esteemed Faculty
Members, Staff Members, distinguished Invitees, dear Graduating
Students, respected Parents, members of Media, Ladies and
Gentlemen!
I extend a very warm welcome to our Chief Guest Shri Ramesh
Chandra Agarwal Ji, Chairman, Dainik Bhaskar Group who in spite
of his very busy schedule has taken the time out to give our
students his blessed advice for their future endeavour.
I also extend a very warm welcome to all of you on this very joyous
occasion, the First Convocation Ceremony of Jaipuria Institute of
Management,Indore.
Let me start with congratulating the graduating students and their
proud parents on this momentous day. Today is a red letter day in
the life of the graduating students, as they have reached a major
milestone and are rearing to face the challenges and capitalise on
theopportunitiesofthebusinessworld.
I also congratulate all the members of Jaipuria Institute of
Management Indore - the Director, Dr. J P Upadhyay, the faculty
members and the entire administrative staff for nurturing, guiding
and grooming its first batch of graduates in successfully
completing their PGDM and securing good placements; an
admirable accomplishment for a campus which started its
operationjustafewyears ago.
Now, that you are ready to step into the world of corporate, let me
broadly portray the landscape of business and economy you will be
working in. According to the World Economic Outlook released by
the International Monetary Fund in April 2013, while the world
economy is projected to grow at 3.3 per cent in 2013, India is
projected to grow at 5.7 per cent in 2013 and at 7 per cent in 2018.
Thus, India is going to continue in its growth trajectory and maintain
its position as the second fastest growing economy of the world.
The corporate world looks at India as the land of opportunities in
view of its fast economic growth and ever expanding market.
You being the future leaders of business must broaden your
perspective and develop an insight to understand the multifarious
challenges and myriad opportunities in the emerging scenario and
work accordingly to make a mark of success for the organisations
youworkwithandalsoforyourownself.
India is a young nation and going to grow even younger in years to
come. At a time when the major countries of the world, such as
China, Japan and South Korea are facing a serious demographic
squeeze, India enjoys a remarkable demographic dividend.
We have more than 60 per cent of our population in the age group
of 15 years to 65 years which is the working age. According to a
report of the International Labour Organisation, by 2020 India will
have 116 million workers in the age bracket of 20 to 24 years,
as compared to China's 94 million. Further, the average age in India
by the year 2020 will be 29 years as against 40 years in USA, 46
years in Japan and 47 years in Europe. Hence, you need to develop
aglobalmindsettotapandenjoytheopportunitiesglobally.
We have a large number of people who lie at the bottom of the
pyramid. There are around 750 million people who still do not get
the minimum calorie of 2400 a day to keep their body and soul
together. The market for most of the products and services is
beyond their reach. Businesses need to find innovative ways
and means to bring these people in the fold of the development
domain. The endeavour of Mr. Mohamed Yunus Hassan in
Bangladesh in this direction which earned him the Noble Prize is
instructive. Let me tell you, the next wave of economic growth in
India has to come from inclusion of the people lying at the bottom of
the pyramid in the process of economic growth. And therefore, you
should not look at them as problem, but, consider them as an
opportunityandaccordthempriority.
Finally, I would like to conclude by quoting Mr. Jonas Salk “The most
meaningful activity in which a human can be engaged is one that is
directly related to human evolution.” This is true because human
beings now play an active and critical role not only in the process of
their evolution but in the survival and evolution of all living beings.
Awareness of this places upon human beings a responsibility for
their participation in and contribution to the process of evolution. If
mankind would accept and acknowledge this responsibility and
become creatively engaged in the process of conscious
development, a new reality would emerge, and a new age would
dawn and I am very much confident that you will shoulder this
responsibility and prove to be not only effective managers but
sensitive and conscious human beings ensuring preservation and
protectionoftheenvironmentandtakingthesocietyforward.
I once again congratulate you and wish you the very best in your
personal andprofessionallivesinthetimestocome.
Thankyou&JaiHind

continuous learning. Even as there will be no examinations and

restricted to finance formulae, and marketing techniques, but will
require you to understand and manage people, their fear,

Vice Chairman’s Message
Shri Shreevats Jaipuria
Vice Chairman, Jaipuria Institute of Management
FIRST ANNUAL CONVOCATION 3FIRST ANNUAL CONVOCATION 2
The convocation ceremony is a great opportunity for us to
appreciate and acknowledge wonderful work done by faculty,
students & staff of Indore Campus under the dynamic leadership of
Director Dr. JP Upadhyay and under the inspiring mentorship of
SharadJi,AnjaliJiandShreevatsJi.
While we feel proud on our achievements, our goal is to consistently
raise the bar on teaching learning outcomes, constant up
gradation of the curriculum to keep it relevant with the emerging
requirements of the business world, greater integration of
technology to take learning beyond classroom & campus, higher &
deeper engagement of students and faculty members and making
abigdifferenceforthesocietyaswell.
I would advise you to choose your career based on your natural
'Ruchi' 'Yogyata' and 'Vishwas'. Follow excellence and perform your
duties with total dedication and passionate ownership and
everything else will follow. Believe in your dreams, success &
success alone and don't entertain any thought of failure. 'Life's
biggest battles don't always go to faster or stronger man,… but the
man who thinks he can.' If you are sure about your success &
dreams, it is definitely going to manifest, as per the Universal 'Law
ofAttractionandBelief'.
The clarity of your vision will decide how far you can go in your
career. Your passion will determine the strides you will make and
your world view will determine the route you may take to get to your
destination. You will have to carve out your own chartered path to
glory and you must create your own mandate for growth.
Toughen up your body and soul, fuel your passion to excel and be
preparedtowalkthroughthestony path.
The world is changing very fast and new growth opportunities and
challenges are emerging across the world. As you are graduating
this day you are already equipped with the success formulae and
the technical knowledge among others. However, your endeavor
should be to keep learning always and give your best and make a
difference in whatever field and whichever organization you are
working. Only by contributing the best in your current job,
nextlevelofgrowthwillbepossible.
According to Bhagwat Gita, “Luck is a combination of
opportunity and preparation.” So you are already prepared now
and opportunity has come your way, but it should be your endeavor
to do your best and keep adding new knowledge and new skills; and
in this way you will always be successful. But success does not
mean only material success. Success also means how much inner
success you are able to get, so for that matter you also need to tone
up your life skills and practice meditation, silence, contemplation,
reflectionetc.
You need to continuously build on your 'KASH' balance
everyday – Knowledge, Attitude, Skills and Habits. So if you're going
to be richer by that, it is going to make a big difference in your life.
And also keep reflecting everyday - write your own reflecting notes
from the learnings of life, what you're getting everyday… how the
whole day went about, could you have done certain things in a
different way and to always have a lifelong learning attitude. This
habit will always help you in going ahead in your chosen field of
endeavor. Invest yourself in these 5 areas on a daily basis
“SPICE”Spiritual + Physical + Intellectual + Community +
Emotional.
Also, find time to relax, smile, do some random act of kindness, and
above all be grateful for what you have got; always feel grateful to
your parents, guru's, your company, your bosses, your peers, your
colleagues. So this feeling of gratefulness will get more and more
bliss and happiness in your life. Happiness doesn't mean getting
everything for your own self, but also in giving, which will make sure
thatyouwillgetlotandlotofhappinessinlife.
Finally, whenyouareworkinginan organization,workin a truespirit
of being a professional. I wish to quote Mr. Subroto Bagchi who has
mentioned in his book “The Professional”. He says – 'Professional
is somebody who work unsupervised, who is proactive and he /she
is the one who declares completion of any task as per his / her
own standard'. I wish you all the very best in your professional
endeavors.
MayGodBlessYouAlways! JaiHind!

Progress Report
The Jaipuria Institute of Management, Indore was set up on
6th May 2010 and it started its operation in 2011. The institute is
spread over an area of 10 acres with built up area of 6990 Sq
Meter. Situated in a picturesque location, the campus of the
institute is equipped with all the modern amenities including the
fully equipped class rooms and tutorial rooms, library, computer
lab, admin block, well equipped hostels, cafeteria and mess. The
academic programme commenced in July 2011 with the first batch

Academics
Our philosophy of institution building at Jaipuria has been that the
excellence in work comes through well defined systems and
processes, with transparency, trust and mutual respect embedded
in it. Inspired with this philosophy and factoring that we are a young
institute, our focus has been to lay the academic foundation and
put in place systems and processes of academic delivery,
administration and quality assurance. We are happy to report that
in a year we have been able to double the number of faculty and
build the capacity of the Programme office and complete all the
statutory documentation. We have also adopted flexi timings to
increase the academic bandwidth for incorporating additional
academicandextracurricularactivities.
At Jaipuria Indore we have been striving to create a stimulating
learning environment by way of encouraging and facilitating
collaboration amongst students, faculty and practitioners from
industry. Members of faculty are sensitized to align their pedagogy
with the principle of adult learning and to use diverse pedagogical
tools and techniques to cater to varied learning styles of students.
We have also institutionalized the practice of tutorial classes for
weak students in specific area and also for those students who
missed classes in view of their official engagements and
responsibilities. With increase of academic resources our basket of
elective courses has expanded over the years and students have
widerchoicesofelectivecourses.
At Jaipuria we have a 3 tier institutional framework for continuous
updation and up gradation of curriculum with inputs from research
in academia and views of practitioners in business. At apex level we
have Internal Academic Council (IAC) followed by Jaipuria Academic
Area Council and finally at each institute we have quality assurance
cell, result is our curriculum is matched with the best practices in
academiaandalignedwiththeneedanddemandsofindustry

Shodh Samiksha – Faculty Research Seminar was started to foster
and promote research activities at the Institute. Focus of Shodh
Samiksha is to provide a platform to the faculty members to
showcase their research work along with a forum where cross
functional contemporary topics can be discussed and debated.
The forum inspired and encouraged faculty members to share their
researchandseekvalueaddingfeedbacksfromcolleagues.
We believe that an open, collegial and participative work
environment is critical for securing the buy-in and ownership of
faculty in the institutional development. At Jaipuria Indore we
encourage and involve members of faculty in the governance of the
institute. Our administrative and academic issues are discussed
and resolved in Faculty Council meetings. More than 20 Faculty
Council Meetings were conducted during the period to discuss and
resolvevariousacademicandadministrativeissues.
Student’sEngagement
We at Jaipuria, Indore are guided by the philosophy that students
are the very reason of our “being”. Students are accordingly an
active partner and at the core of the teaching-learning process of
the institute. Jaipuria Indore, being a fully residential campus,
provides us 24x7 accesses to students and also facilitates group
workandactivitiesbeyondtheclassroom.
We give our students ample opportunities to organize and
participate in events throughout the year and 'learn by doing'.
In order to structure, blend and align the student activities with
academics and professional development agenda of the institute,
we have instituted seven different clubs that roll out diverse set of
activities and events in their respective thematic areas. Club
activities on a daily basis range from organizing quizzes on current
affairs, or steering language lab or conducting a debate on socially
relevant issues, or merely enjoying a moment of leisure watching a
movie,orlearningnewsoftware.
I am happy to report that in a very short span of time each of the
seven clubs besides conducting routine activities, have been able
to organize a national level conclave/seminar on emerging themes
in their respective areas. The theme of the Marketing Conclave was
“Brand Communications– Issues and Challenges”. Students of the
Marketing Club also organized a marketing plan competition
“Marketing wizard 2013”. Finance Conclave focused on Fast
Moving Financial Markets. “Demystifying Union Budget 2013-14”
was another show put up by the Finance Club. “Grooming HR
Managers of the Future” was the theme for HR Conclave. IT Club
organized a national seminar on “Managing Big Data-Challenges
and Opportunities. 'Encore', a national level contest of
presentation design and delivery and “Jai Utsav”, the first
management festival of the institute were the most popular events
intheinstitute.
Mentoring
The institute has institutionalized a well structured Mentorship
Programme for all round development of the students. Every
student is assigned to a faculty mentor since day one of joining the
Institute. The faculty mentors assess the developmental needs of
their respective mentees and undertake/arrange relevant learning
interventions. We have been trying to leverage the mentoring for
personal and professional development and its really proving to be
apotenttoolfortransformationofourstudents.
Student'sAwards/Recognition
I am happy to inform that our campus scored better on most of the
parameters of student's engagement in the “Students Survey
2012-13” conducted on the four campuses of Jaipuria Institute of
Management. It was also reflected in the laurel brought by our
students by winning various competitions organized by the
institutions of repute. During the year 2010-13, 35 students were
awarded with Trophies, Medals, Certificates and Cash Prizes. The
volume and range of accolades bestowed upon our students are
tremendous- be it winning national business plan competition at
Prestige, Indore or being decorated for showcasing their
photography skills at IIM-Kozhikode to releasing a music album
that airs on MTV to outshining the best in a televised debate on
NDTV-ourstudentshavedoneitall,andmore.
CommunityDevelopment
Rural landscape of Jaipuria Indore provides opportunity to our
students to feel the pulse of rural India. It exposes them to the
loving nature of our villagers and also sensitizes them with their
difficulty and depravity. The CSR Club of the institute has organized
various activities and undertaken several initiatives to sensitize the
budding managers to the societal concerns for deprived class.
“Dayitva at Dakachya” is one of the recent initiatives of our
students for bringing the change by being the part of the change,
enabling the villagers with new set of occupational skills. “UGAM”
the evening school for village kids is another social initiative of
Jaipuria students focused at overall development of village kids
covering written and spoken English, personality development and
primarycomputereducation.
Entrepreneurship
Entrepreneurship Cell at Jaipuria Indore under the aegis of
National Entrepreneurship Network (NEN) organizes multifarious
activities and events to inspire, educate and support the next
generation of high growth entrepreneurs driving job creation and
economic growth. I am happy to inform that start up initiatives of
two students from Jaipuria Indore was included into the prestigious
category of Tata NEN Start Up Company. The Institute observed E-
Week during February 9-16, 2013 in which 86 diverse activities
were organized. Recognizing the efforts and initiative of our
institute, NEN awarded Jaipuria Indore, the “Small Institute Honour
Roll” for 2013. For a three years old institute it's an achievement
whichweshouldbeproudof.
Institute-IndustryInterface
At Jaipuria Indore, institute-industry interface is inbuilt and
integrated in the course curriculum. We have created diverse
platforms to provide industry exposure and orientation to our
students. Industry Mentorship Programme (IMP) is our unique and
pioneering initiative where-in students are assigned to designated
organizations for two week training under the guidance of assigned
mentors at the respective companies and faculty mentor at the
institute. At the end of programme students prepare a report on
their learning and make presentation before panel including the
industrymentor.
Our curricula has inbuilt provision of at least three guest speakers
from industry in each course. Besides, the institute also organizes
industry visits to deepen the industry orientation of the students.
During the year 2012-13, fifty selected students underwent the
Industry Mentorship Programme, two industry visits were
organized and 54 speakers from industry interacted with the
students.
FDP/MDP
As a young institute our focus at Jaipuria Indore is to build and hone
our internal capacity before we embark upon developing the
capacity of practitioners from industry and corporate through
Management Development Programmes. I am happy to report that
last year we conducted four in-house capacity development
workshops - three for members of faculty and one for staff of the
institute.
We also made a foray in Executive Education and organized two
open Management Development Programmes, one on the theme
'Finance for Non-Finance” and the other one on “Delivering Service
Excellence”.
MedalsandScholarship
The Institute recognizes merit at all stages during two year
programme. I would like to congratulate all the three medal winners
for their academic achievements and also to the Merit certificates
holders, recognizing their excellence in respective streams of
Finance,MarketingandHumanResourceManagement.
CareerDreamsatJaipuriaIndore
I am happy to report that 62 per cent of our students are already
placed and with more than 25 placement processes in pipeline, we
expectto placeremainingstudentshortly. In thepresentdistressful
economic scenario, you will appreciate that for an institute which is
placing its first crop, it's not a mean achievement. This year, the
maximum package offered till date has been Rs. 4,20,000/- and
theaveragepackageworksouttoRs.3,00,000.

Global Services, Laurent and Benon, Tata McGraw Hill,
Remorphing,IndiaMartIntermesh,EntrepreneurIndiaetc.
FutureAspirations
It gives me great pleasure to put on record that in a short time span
of less than three years, Jaipuria Institute of Management, Indore
has carved a niche for itself and has emerged as a credible brand in
central India. We would like to build on this foundation to take our
institute to the next growth trajectory. We are in the process of
starting incubation center on campus in collaboration with
National Entrepreneurship Network. The incubation centre will
provide our students an opportunity to explore and capitalize on
their entrepreneurial quotient and achieve their dream of building
businesses of their choice. We have plans to further strengthen
and deepen our interface and engagement with industry. Our
relationship with the industry will be symbiotic. We will organize
open and in-house MDPs and offer consultancy services to develop
the capacity of industry. Our strategy is to partner with the
professional associations such as National HRD Network, Indore
Management Association and CII and undertake joint projects of
MDP, Consultancy and Research. We propose to undertake series
of research on problems and issues being faced by the local
industry. We expect our partnership and collaboration with industry
in course of time will reduce the gap in industry practice and class
room teaching at Jaipuria Indore. Our aspiration may appear big
and loud, but I have no doubt in assuring you that with the synergy
of the team of my esteemed faculty members, members of
administrative staff, and the students, Jaipuria Indore will emerge
as a distinguished centre of excellence preparing management
graduatesthatallthesectors ofeconomywillbeeagerlylookingfor.
ConcludingRemarks
Finally, I extend my hearty congratulations to the graduating
students and appreciate their cooperation during the process of
their transformation for two years which at times was very much
demanding. I am confident that your this attitude of cooperation,
flexibility, and readily taking up responsibility will give you a distinct
edge in your career. I wish you all the very best for your future
endeavour.MayGodblessyou.

Souvenir - Convocation Indore

  • 2. FIRST ANNUAL CONVOCATION I congratulate all of you on this very auspicious ceremony of the convocation of Jaipuria Institute of Management. I must commend the Institute which has a rich legacy of being in the field of education since 1945 and has made a significant contribution in the management education field with four well established campuses in Lucknow, Noida, Jaipur and Indore. Your students have attained major positions all over the world. Jaipuria is being recognized as a reliable name in management education. The credit for this goes to both the faculty members and the students of thisinstitute.Forwithoutone,theothercan'tdeliver. You are among the few shining stars in the field of management education.Only recentlyI went through an ASSOCHAM report which concluded that business schools are fast losing recognition in the corporate world. Only 10 per cent pass outs from management schools have been found worthy of being employed. Campus placement has seen a slide of 40 per cent during past four years. As many as 180 management schools closed down during 2012 only. Another 160 such schools are still struggling for survival. Thesefactsandfigures arealarming. We need to find out the reason for this downslide. The report has attributed this fall due to lack of proper management education. It seems the management schools are not aware of needs of the corporate world. There is hardly any coordination between management institutions and the corporate. This picture of education is shocking in a country which is being projected as one oftheemergingeconomicsuperpowers. The number of business schools has grown three folds during past five years to 4500. MBA seats too grew four times - from 95 thousand to 3.6 lakh during the same period. But these numbers don't inspire hope. As job opportunities haven't grown in the same proportion as management institutes and MBA seats. Andhra Pradesh alone has 940 management schools and 65000 seats. This is probably the highest in the country. Being a leader in quantitydoesn'tnecessarymeanbeingnumberoneinqualitytoo. Rate of economic growth has steadily declined during past nine years to reach its lowest point. This obviously impacted demand of management graduates. Management institutes which proliferated rapidly in the hope of 8 to 9 per cent growth rate, had to facetheconsequences. The students too can't escape their share of blame. Because at the time of admission, they care only about placement and good salary package caring two hoots about quality of education of that institute. In such atmosphere institutes too didn't feel the need to improve their quality. Their theory-based courses are generally far from practical needs of the corporate, especially the lack of communicationskills.Thisshortcomingneedstoberectified. But hope is yet not lost. You know better that India and China will be economic superpowers by 2050. India might even overtake China. But,alookatourpreparationsblightssuchascenario. Today people like Indira Nooyi and Anshu Jain can be counted on fingertips who reached the pinnacle of global economy. It's not enough. We need to have a long list of such names. This will be possible only when our management schools provide the best possible education. We need to strengthen our knowledge-economy to achieve número uno position in global economy. This convocation has provided us an opportunity to realize the dream of shaping a robust India. I am from a leading Media group and in our world; we often say that country needs good managers' more than good leaders. People are disappointed with political leadership, feel that strengthening country's economy through goodmanagementcanalsosolvemanyotherproblemsplaguingit. Good strategy, planned preparation and skilled team can lead to stupendous results. This formula applies equally to corporate and the government. People now understand this. If instead of politicians, they are looking at you with hopeful eyes; it not only augurs well for your profession but also increases the burden of responsibilitiesonyourshoulders. I trust students of this institute will live up to these expectations. I hope to see the glimmer in their eyes, of the dream to make a strong India, wherever they work. If we can contribute even the slightest bit in realizing this dream, we would have made our life andeducationmeaningful. Congratulationsonceagaintoallofyou. Chief Guest's Message Shri Ramesh Chandra Agarwal Chairman, Dainik Bhaskar Group 1
  • 3. Shri Ramesh Chandra Agarwal Ji, Chief Guest of the occasion, Shri Shreevats ji, Vice Chairman, Dr. Pankaj Gupta, Director General, Dr. J P Upadhyay, Director of the Institute, distinguished members of Academic Council, esteemed Faculty Members, Staff Members, distinguished Invitees, dear Graduating Students, respected Parents, members of Media, Ladies and Gentlemen! I extend a very warm welcome to our Chief Guest Shri Ramesh Chandra Agarwal Ji, Chairman, Dainik Bhaskar Group who in spite of his very busy schedule has taken the time out to give our students his blessed advice for their future endeavour. I also extend a very warm welcome to all of you on this very joyous occasion, the First Convocation Ceremony of Jaipuria Institute of Management,Indore. Let me start with congratulating the graduating students and their proud parents on this momentous day. Today is a red letter day in the life of the graduating students, as they have reached a major milestone and are rearing to face the challenges and capitalise on theopportunitiesofthebusinessworld. I also congratulate all the members of Jaipuria Institute of Management Indore - the Director, Dr. J P Upadhyay, the faculty members and the entire administrative staff for nurturing, guiding and grooming its first batch of graduates in successfully completing their PGDM and securing good placements; an admirable accomplishment for a campus which started its operationjustafewyears ago. Now, that you are ready to step into the world of corporate, let me broadly portray the landscape of business and economy you will be working in. According to the World Economic Outlook released by the International Monetary Fund in April 2013, while the world economy is projected to grow at 3.3 per cent in 2013, India is projected to grow at 5.7 per cent in 2013 and at 7 per cent in 2018. Thus, India is going to continue in its growth trajectory and maintain its position as the second fastest growing economy of the world. The corporate world looks at India as the land of opportunities in view of its fast economic growth and ever expanding market. You being the future leaders of business must broaden your perspective and develop an insight to understand the multifarious challenges and myriad opportunities in the emerging scenario and work accordingly to make a mark of success for the organisations youworkwithandalsoforyourownself. India is a young nation and going to grow even younger in years to come. At a time when the major countries of the world, such as China, Japan and South Korea are facing a serious demographic squeeze, India enjoys a remarkable demographic dividend. We have more than 60 per cent of our population in the age group of 15 years to 65 years which is the working age. According to a report of the International Labour Organisation, by 2020 India will have 116 million workers in the age bracket of 20 to 24 years, as compared to China's 94 million. Further, the average age in India by the year 2020 will be 29 years as against 40 years in USA, 46 years in Japan and 47 years in Europe. Hence, you need to develop aglobalmindsettotapandenjoytheopportunitiesglobally. We have a large number of people who lie at the bottom of the pyramid. There are around 750 million people who still do not get the minimum calorie of 2400 a day to keep their body and soul together. The market for most of the products and services is beyond their reach. Businesses need to find innovative ways and means to bring these people in the fold of the development domain. The endeavour of Mr. Mohamed Yunus Hassan in Bangladesh in this direction which earned him the Noble Prize is instructive. Let me tell you, the next wave of economic growth in India has to come from inclusion of the people lying at the bottom of the pyramid in the process of economic growth. And therefore, you should not look at them as problem, but, consider them as an opportunityandaccordthempriority. Finally, I would like to conclude by quoting Mr. Jonas Salk “The most meaningful activity in which a human can be engaged is one that is directly related to human evolution.” This is true because human beings now play an active and critical role not only in the process of their evolution but in the survival and evolution of all living beings. Awareness of this places upon human beings a responsibility for their participation in and contribution to the process of evolution. If mankind would accept and acknowledge this responsibility and become creatively engaged in the process of conscious development, a new reality would emerge, and a new age would dawn and I am very much confident that you will shoulder this responsibility and prove to be not only effective managers but sensitive and conscious human beings ensuring preservation and protectionoftheenvironmentandtakingthesocietyforward. I once again congratulate you and wish you the very best in your personal andprofessionallivesinthetimestocome. Thankyou&JaiHind Chairman’s Message Shri Sharad Jaipuria Chairman, Jaipuria Institute of Management Graduates of Jaipuria Institute of Management, Indore please accept my warmest congratulations on accomplishing this mile stone in your life all because of you own hard work, and perseverance. Through your two year engagement with us, we have simply triedtobuildastrongfoundationforthefuture. Even though this foundation includes technical knowledge of Finance, Marketing, Human Resources and other academic subjects. I hope you will realize that academics is only part of your learning here. As important if not more, is to develop a mindset for continuous learning. Even as there will be no examinations and quizzes anymore, you will be required to learn and relearn from real life situations everyday. And again, this learning will not be restricted to finance formulae, and marketing techniques, but will require you to understand and manage people, their fear, theirneedsandtheiraspirationsaboveallelse. Ifirmly believeyouareallsettotakeontheworldinyourownway. Wishingyouallsuccess, healthandwealthinfuture. Vice Chairman’s Message Shri Shreevats Jaipuria Vice Chairman, Jaipuria Institute of Management FIRST ANNUAL CONVOCATION 3FIRST ANNUAL CONVOCATION 2
  • 4. The convocation ceremony is a great opportunity for us to appreciate and acknowledge wonderful work done by faculty, students & staff of Indore Campus under the dynamic leadership of Director Dr. JP Upadhyay and under the inspiring mentorship of SharadJi,AnjaliJiandShreevatsJi. While we feel proud on our achievements, our goal is to consistently raise the bar on teaching learning outcomes, constant up gradation of the curriculum to keep it relevant with the emerging requirements of the business world, greater integration of technology to take learning beyond classroom & campus, higher & deeper engagement of students and faculty members and making abigdifferenceforthesocietyaswell. I would advise you to choose your career based on your natural 'Ruchi' 'Yogyata' and 'Vishwas'. Follow excellence and perform your duties with total dedication and passionate ownership and everything else will follow. Believe in your dreams, success & success alone and don't entertain any thought of failure. 'Life's biggest battles don't always go to faster or stronger man,… but the man who thinks he can.' If you are sure about your success & dreams, it is definitely going to manifest, as per the Universal 'Law ofAttractionandBelief'. The clarity of your vision will decide how far you can go in your career. Your passion will determine the strides you will make and your world view will determine the route you may take to get to your destination. You will have to carve out your own chartered path to glory and you must create your own mandate for growth. Toughen up your body and soul, fuel your passion to excel and be preparedtowalkthroughthestony path. The world is changing very fast and new growth opportunities and challenges are emerging across the world. As you are graduating this day you are already equipped with the success formulae and the technical knowledge among others. However, your endeavor should be to keep learning always and give your best and make a difference in whatever field and whichever organization you are working. Only by contributing the best in your current job, nextlevelofgrowthwillbepossible. According to Bhagwat Gita, “Luck is a combination of opportunity and preparation.” So you are already prepared now and opportunity has come your way, but it should be your endeavor to do your best and keep adding new knowledge and new skills; and in this way you will always be successful. But success does not mean only material success. Success also means how much inner success you are able to get, so for that matter you also need to tone up your life skills and practice meditation, silence, contemplation, reflectionetc. You need to continuously build on your 'KASH' balance everyday – Knowledge, Attitude, Skills and Habits. So if you're going to be richer by that, it is going to make a big difference in your life. And also keep reflecting everyday - write your own reflecting notes from the learnings of life, what you're getting everyday… how the whole day went about, could you have done certain things in a different way and to always have a lifelong learning attitude. This habit will always help you in going ahead in your chosen field of endeavor. Invest yourself in these 5 areas on a daily basis “SPICE”Spiritual + Physical + Intellectual + Community + Emotional. Also, find time to relax, smile, do some random act of kindness, and above all be grateful for what you have got; always feel grateful to your parents, guru's, your company, your bosses, your peers, your colleagues. So this feeling of gratefulness will get more and more bliss and happiness in your life. Happiness doesn't mean getting everything for your own self, but also in giving, which will make sure thatyouwillgetlotandlotofhappinessinlife. Finally, whenyouareworkinginan organization, workin a truespirit of being a professional. I wish to quote Mr. Subroto Bagchi who has mentioned in his book “The Professional”. He says – 'Professional is somebody who work unsupervised, who is proactive and he /she is the one who declares completion of any task as per his / her own standard'. I wish you all the very best in your professional endeavors. MayGodBlessYouAlways! JaiHind! The Chief Guest of the day, Shri Ramesh Chandra Agarwal Ji, Chairman, Dainik Bhaskar Group, Shri Sharad Jaipuria Ji, Chairman, BoG, Shri Shreevats JaipuriaJi ViceChairman, Members of the Governing Board, Distinguished guests, members of our Faculty, members of administrative staff, graduating students, parents, our first year students, media persons, ladies and gentlemen! I would also like to acknowledge the kind presence of Dr. Pankaj Gupta, Director General, Jaipuria Institutes of Management and the distinguished members of Academic Council who have always been available with their support and guidance in our endeavor to build Jaipuria InstituteofManagementasanInstitutionofExcellence. As the Director of the Institute, it is my privilege to present before you a brief account of our journey with important milestones coveredduringlasttwoyears. Progress Report The Jaipuria Institute of Management, Indore was set up on 6th May 2010 and it started its operation in 2011. The institute is spread over an area of 10 acres with built up area of 6990 Sq Meter. Situated in a picturesque location, the campus of the institute is equipped with all the modern amenities including the fully equipped class rooms and tutorial rooms, library, computer lab, admin block, well equipped hostels, cafeteria and mess. The academic programme commenced in July 2011 with the first batch of37students. Academics Our philosophy of institution building at Jaipuria has been that the excellence in work comes through well defined systems and processes, with transparency, trust and mutual respect embedded in it. Inspired with this philosophy and factoring that we are a young institute, our focus has been to lay the academic foundation and put in place systems and processes of academic delivery, administration and quality assurance. We are happy to report that in a year we have been able to double the number of faculty and build the capacity of the Programme office and complete all the statutory documentation. We have also adopted flexi timings to increase the academic bandwidth for incorporating additional academicandextracurricularactivities. At Jaipuria Indore we have been striving to create a stimulating learning environment by way of encouraging and facilitating collaboration amongst students, faculty and practitioners from industry. Members of faculty are sensitized to align their pedagogy with the principle of adult learning and to use diverse pedagogical tools and techniques to cater to varied learning styles of students. We have also institutionalized the practice of tutorial classes for weak students in specific area and also for those students who missed classes in view of their official engagements and responsibilities.
