*Flag History           The Paraguay flag was adopted on November 27, 1842, making it one of the
www.worldflags101.com   world's oldest flags. Paraguay gained independence from Spain on May 15,
                        1811. The practice of having a separate emblem on each side of the flag dates
                        back to the time of José de Francia who was in power from 1814-1840.
