2. What’s the deal @jadeypeeps?
My social media interactions and participation have been designed to evoke
thoughtful and meaningful content, attempting to engage people in issues that may
be overlooked with playful and colloquial language. I am keen for awareness raising
of problems that exist within our society, with my main focus being on gender and
sexuality. I have used my Wordpress and Twitter profile to post sound bites of
images, videos and articles detailing feminism and the need for gender equality. In
order to engage audiences, I have basically taken a large issue and tried to break it
down with humour, sarcasm or ALL CAPITALS to attract attention and to exert my
personality, which is generally quite loud, hurried and fret like. I use the same tactic
with political issues and more recently, the election campaign.
I also use these platforms, primarily Twitter, to engage with, follow and learn from
many established or upcoming local and international writers passionate about
similar issues. I try to engage with them by endorsing and helping to share pieces of
writing and using particular hashtags at events to communicate and network.
3. Positioning Statement
My public is writers, academics and activists in the field of gender studies and feminism, like-minded
people with views and commentary on gender, news and politics, and students. I am appealing to
these people to inform, educate and raise awareness to others and myself on societal issues and to
help create a career in writing. I am referred to on social media as ‘jadeypeeps’ which is a name that
has stuck even when communicating offline and is visible across all platforms. My category is
feminism, gender studies and politics.
Value Proposition
I volunteer for Transgender Victoria and It Gets Better Australia which helps to elevate me to a position
of credibility. Many choose to ignore facets of societal issues and advocacy for change due to its
overwhelming nature. I maintain that all tweets, posts and pictures are light and easy to read even if
there is disturbing content and that incredulous outrage can be tackled with a comedic and endearing
approach.
Brand Story
My story is all things gender, feminism and sexuality presented and voiced through social media,
manipulating each platform for their key feature. Posting images of activism on Instagram, articles on
Wordpress and sound bites and links on Twitter. All of my platforms paint a picture of gender equality
and people keen to learn more about the issues will appreciate an easy to read yet fascinating
trajectory of information. My brand is empowering and multi faceted, willing people to build a rapport
with me so they feel comfortable in pointing out gaps and holes in my arguments and to share with
me, those views I have not yet heard.
