CAS 3.0 is an open source single sign-on system that aims to address limitations in CAS 2.0 by improving extensibility and flexibility. CAS 3.0 maintains backward compatibility with earlier versions while adding features like SAML support and the ability to accept multiple credential types. It uses a revised architecture with improvements like loose coupling, unit testing, and support for extensions through aspects and events.
