1. On Friday I went to the centre library in
the civic centre for a day visit to see how
non IT resources could help me during
my ECDL course.
I enjoyed my day at the library and
thought it was a good learning experience.
I felt the activities we did whilst there
helped me see what the library was like
and how it can help me in the future.
I also liked the fact that it got us talking
and working with each other which we
don’t do a lot of in class.
I think I will definitely be making another
trip to the library soon because I managed
to find a collection of books from one of
my favorite authors that I didn’t think the
library would stock.
How I felt the day wentLibraryVisit Activities
The activities we performed during the day were
set as a list of tasks. We had to complete these in
groups; such as finding out how to access the Wi-
Fi in the building.
Task 1. Getting the Wi-Fi information: this was a
combination of your library card number and your
date of birth.
Task 2. Find three things in the library that we
hadn’t already found in our research previously.
Interactive machines
£1 to rent DVD's
Copies of newspapers available to read.
Task 3. Images: Taken on Stella’s phone (thanks)
Task 4. Find out where different resources could
be found i.e. different book sections and the com-
puter areas. The fiction, music and DVD’s were
downstairs with the non fiction, magazines and
newspapers being upstairs. The computers were
both upstairs and downstairs.
Task 5. Find an answer to an un-Google-able
question. I had difficulty finding an un-Google-
able question that could be answered in the library
Task 6. Sign up to the library. I didn't have any
identification on me so I will have to go sign up
another time.
