2. FOREWORD
The festive season is well and truly on. We hope you are enjoying the joys,
wishes and celebrations that are part of this period. With Christmas and
New Year around the corner, the next few weeks will see even more
cheerfulness amongst the masses.
At NISM, we've been in the thick of things with the focus clearly on financial
literacy. We conducted a Pocket Money training workshop for teachers in
Chennai along with two full-fledged training programmes for Financial
Resource persons in the Northern and Southern regions of India.
September also saw a delegation from Zimbabwe visit NISM as part of an
effort to learn from India's achievements in regulating and developing the
securities markets.
NISM is pleased to announce its association as an Academic Partner to the

3. POCKET MONEY PROGRAMME
AT CHENNAI

As part of NISM's efforts towards spreading financial literacy among the student community, a training
session was held for School Teachers in the premises of Madras Stock Exchange, at Chennai on Saturday,
September 24, 2011. The programme imparted skills and knowledge required to teach students on various
aspects of financial literacy as per the Pocket Money programme.
The inaugural session was attended by Mr. Nagappan and Mr. Venketeswaran, Directors at the Madras Stock
Exchange. Mr. Sampathkumar, Manager at Madras Stock Exchange co-ordinated with the schools and
ensured 100 per cent attendance.
The programme was anchored in the morning session by Mrs. Kanaka Asai from IMS Proschool and
subsequently by Mr. Murli Iyer for banking and Mr. Nitin Tike for the stock market related sessions. Seventy
eight teachers from various schools in and around Chennai attended the programme. Schools from ICSE,
CBSE and State Boards were represented in the programme. The programme was well appreciated by the
participants.

4. EMPANELMENT AND WORKSHOP FOR RESOURCE PERSONS

The empanelment and workshop for SEBI's Financial Education Resource Persons for the Northern Region
and Southern Region were conducted in the first and last week of September respectively.
For the Northern region, the empanelment interview was conducted on September 3, 2011 at New Delhi.
Twenty three candidates were selected as Resource Persons. The workshops were held during September
04-10, 2011. The inaugural session of the workshop was attended by Mr. N Hariharan, Gen Manager, SEBI,
Mr. Praveen Trivedi, Regional Manager, SEBI Northern Region Office, Mr. K Sukumaran, Dean, SIEFL - NISM
and other representatives from SEBI and NISM. The seven day workshop was anchored by Mr. Amit Trivedi,
Consultant. The workshop concluded with an interaction by Shri. G. P Garg, Chief Gen Manager, SEBI with the

participants of the programme.
The workshop for the Southern region was held during Sept 24 - Oct 1, 2011. The empanelment interview
was conducted on September 24. A total of 61 candidates were selected and enrolled as Resource Persons.
The workshop was inaugurated by Mr. Suresh Menon, Chief General Manager and Regional Manager of SEBI
Southern Regional Office. Mr. N Hariharan, Gen Manager, SEBI, Mr. Manjesh Stephen Roy, Dy. Gen Manager,
SEBI, Mr. K. Sukumaran, Dean, SIEFL - NISM and Mr. Amit Trivedi, Consultant spoke on the occasion. Topics
covering all aspects of financial education were covered in the seven days workshop. Mr. G. P Garg, CGM,

6. ZIMBABWE DELEGATION VISITS INDIA
A delegation comprising of an assortment of professionals led by Zimbabwe's Securities Commission CEO,
Tafadzwa Chinamo visited India from September 12-16 as part of an endeavour to expose Zimbabwean regulators
to the achievements of their Indian counterparts over the past two decades.
As part of the familiarisation programme, the delegation visited the Indian securities and exchanges regulator SEBI,
the NSE, NSDL, NISM and ICICI. Top executives of these respective organizations explained the evolution of Indian
securities markets, its regulatory framework, the challenges faced while adopting screen-based trading,
dematerialisation of securities, etc.
The Zimbabwean delegation visited NISM on September 15 for a half-day session. After a round of introductions,
Mr. Soneji, Registrar, NISM presented an overview of the institute to the delegation. This was followed by
presentations by NISM staff. The presentations were followed by a vote of thanks by Mr. V. G. Bhagat, SVP The

session concluded with lunch.
INDUCTION PROGRAMME FOR OFFICERS OF SEBI 2011 - BATCH II
As an ongoing arrangement, NISM conducted an induction programme for the newly recruited officers of Grade A /
Grade B from Sept. 23 - Oct. 05, 2011 at NISM, Vashi.
The induction programme has been designed to give a holistic view of securities markets to the officers that would
help them perform their regulatory duties effectively. There were various sessions on describing the overview and
regulatory processes in primary and secondary markets. Industry experts gave an understanding of the
developments in equity and debt markets in India. Senior officials from SEBI spoke about various regulatory
challenges in securities markets in India.
The inductees got an experience of trading in cash and derivatives segment through a hands-on experience
simulator session at ITM, Vashi. The inductees also went on a field visit to stock exchanges and depositories.
The induction programme concluded with a valedictory function on October 05, 2011 which was presided by Mr.
Prashant Saran, WTM, SEBI at NISM Bhavan.
