Background to the 2010 PHC
 The 2010 Population and Housing Census
(PHC) of Ghana followed the essential features
of a modern Population and Housing Census as
     recommended by the United Nations.
 This is the fifth census conducted after
independence and the second time a
population census has been combined with a
     housing census.
 The 2010 PHC was in reference to 26th
     September, 2010 (Census Night).

Background to the 2010 PHC (Cont’d)

 A ‘de facto’ count approach was adopted.
Thus, all persons who were found within the
borders of Ghana on Census Night,
irrespective of their nationality and status
     were enumerated.

 All residential structures (both occupied and
     unoccupied) were also counted.
