Andrew Walsh, University of Huddersfield, a.p.walsh@hud.ac.uk
Students and staff come to university with a range of computing devices from eBook
readers, through tablet computers, netbooks, laptops, to fully blown desktop devices,
hoping to use them in their studies. This poster describes an on-going HEA funded
project (“A Multitude of mobile devices for learning”) which started in September
2012 at the University of Huddersfield. The project facilitates peer support workshops
to improve student skills when using the devices to search for, organise and manage
information for university study. A small group of students co-ordinate and run these
workshops for their fellow students, with support from the library. The aim of the
workshops is to improve the attendees’ information literacy and academic learning
skills in the mobile environment. This poster will describe the project and its
outcomes so far, describing how the workshops were organised and some key
issues that were raised by workshop attendees.
