Post Lab Analysis– Complete the following after finishing the laboratory component of this
investigation. Please be sure to clearly identify which question you are answering.
Overall Summary Question:
Comment on the accuracy and precision of the data collected during the your own experiment. Be sure to
reference each experiment. Additionally, what are the drawbacks to averaging all of the data? ____/7
Summary Questions for Exercise 1
    1. The data collected during the experiment is to be recorded and tabulated as follows:
         a. Construct a plot of the class data set with enzyme activity as a function of the substrate concentration. Be
sure to include figure labels as well as a description of the figure. ____/7
    2. Analyze the data set with the following responses:
       a. Predict with justification, the shape of the graph if you used 40mM and 80mM concentrations of
          ONPG. ____/3
         b. Identify if your hypothesis for this exercise was/was not supported by the experiment results.
            Explain your reasoning. ____/3

Summary Questions for Exercise 2
    3. The data collected during the experiment is to be recorded and tabulated as follows:
              a. Construct a plot of the class data set (as you did in question 1a). ____/7
    4. Analyze the data set with the following responses:

         a. Compare the results of Exercise 2 with Exercise 1. Explain why the shape of the graph varies.
            ____/5

         b. Identify if your hypothesis for this exercise was/was not supported by the experiment results.
            Explain your reasoning. ____/3

Summary Questions for Exercise 3
   5. The data collected during the experiment is to be recorded and tabulated as you did in question 1a.
Do not add a trend line for this graph. ____/7

    6. Analyze the data set with the following responses:

              a. Given what you know about enzyme activity, explain the shape of the graph. Be sure to refer
to protein structure in your answer. ____/4

Experiment Summary Questions
    7. Look back at the results of Exercises 1-3. Now think about this problem. Amylase is another enzyme that our
body uses to process sugars. Amylase in our small intestine cleaves starch in foods into individual glucose
molecules that are burned for energy. However, the enzyme is not needed if there is no starch to digest.
                   a. Determine the simplest way for the body to regulate amylase activity. If you look up
information for this question, be sure to cite it! Use APA parenthetical citations. ____/5
                   b. Suggest how the body can turn amylase activity OFF quickly. ___/3
