When it comes to film poster the producers or distributors of the film are
more likely to put lot of money toward the film posters because posters
are one of the main things which attracted the audience to watch the
film. If the image on the poster doesn’t attract the audience.
Furthermore If the plot or theme and most importantly genre are not
clear in the film poster then there is higher chance of them not liking the
poster or even watching.
‘When a stranger calls’ poster shows a female
on the phone and by her facial expression we
can tell that she is scared and horrified. Behind
her we can see a shadow of man which we
cant identify. Yellow and black are the main
colours which are presented on the poster and
from the first look we can tell that this poster is
quite obviously an thriller.
2. Every film posters will always have the film’s title on it
because without the title no one will know what the film is
called and it would be difficult for the audience to find out
more information about the film.
By looking at the title of the film which is called ‘Unknown’ we
can tell that the character is having issue figuring who they
are.
When it comes to the image of the film it can be stills image
from the film, character shots but they always contain some
type of iconography to reveal the film’s genre and something
about the film and the character. Images on posters represent
the narrative of the film, so its important that it is very clear.
3. Most of films would use quotes, recommendations and
ratings. Once a film has been screened to critics. The
promotion team of the film can re-create another
posters, which is called orre-cut trailers which include
positive reviews, ratings, feedback and recommendations.
Usually they use bunch of words from the dictionary to
describe to whole film in couple of words.#
