Green ICT and energy efficiency in ICT are key opportunities to lower the ecological footprint. Smart energy grids (smart grids) allow for more efficient use of energy and are seen as a major industry and societal evolution as the power and ICT industries converge. Companies partnering in IBBT research on green ICT included SONY, Niko, and VITO. The brokering event discussed potential interdisciplinary collaborative projects (ICONs) between IBBT research groups and external partners from companies, governments, and non-profits in application domains like digital media, health, mobility, ICT and energy, and secure computing.
