The Cold War

How did president Truman
  respond to Soviet domination of
         Eastern Europe?

Truman's doctrine
Policy set forth by president Truman in march 1947 stating that
the U.S would support Greece and turkey with economic and
military aid to prevent those countries falling into soviet sphere
of influence .
That was often considered the start of the cold war.
What are the reasons behind the
differences between the US & Russia at
          the end of WWII ?
America wanted peace and freedom. Russia
wanted to spread communism. After WWII,
the Soviet Union turned its attention to
rebuilding its own economy and aiding in
           post-war reconstruction in Eastern European
Soviet satellite states. It also assisted the
           Chinese communist party and increasingly
became involved in expanding its influence
to other parts of the world. The Soviet
Union's growing influence and the spread of
communism led to the Cold War between it
           and the U.S.
What were the causes & results of
  Stalin’s blockage of Berlin?

Families were separated from each other and East Germans who had
worked in West Berlin, could no longer work there and had to find
employment in the east which was very difficult. The Communists
were discredited by most of the people-east and west. Berliners, who
had endured so much suffering during the war, with the constant air
raids and intense fighting and atrocities committed, did not deserve
this inhumane treatment. Many elderly Berliners actually committed
suicide as the wall became a common sight over time. Many gave up
hope of ever seeing their loved ones and put an end to their lives.
West Berlin flourished under Willy Brandt, the major, and subsequent
leaders in the 1960's, 70's, and 80's. Even though East Berlin was
heralded as the "Paris of the East" by the Communists, it was much
drearier than the prosperous West Berlin.
