TIME: 40 MINUTES
ACTIVITY: TEACHING LISTENING
LISTENING POINT: MOVIES & STORIES
MATERIALS: Course book, listening texts, movies, movie posters, quizzes, pictures,
question cards and one hula hoop.
MOVIES: BOLT & ICE AGE
AIMS & OBJECTIVES
1. Students will be able to describe people & characters and what people do.
2. Students will be able to express their dislikes.
3. Students will be able to make simple inquiries.
4. Students will be able to state personal opinions.
5. Students will be able to follow slow and carefully articulated speech describing movie
characters and movie types.
6. Students will develop an awareness of movies as an international art form and develop
positive attitudes towards movies from different countries.
7. Students will be able to develop their motivation and concentration.
8. Students will be able to activate their schemata or previous knowledge.
PROCEDURE
STAGE 1 – PRE-LISTENING ACTIVITIES
Before listening, the teacher asks some questions to get students’ attention by saying
“Watching movies is an enjoyable free-time activity whether you’re going to the movies or
renting a DVD online to watch at home. Many people go to the movies to relax and enjoy
their favorite pictures. What kinds of movies do you like to see and why? Do you buy any
snacks at the concession stand at the movie theater? Why or why not?” Then, the teacher
shows two movie posters and asks some questions to students about what they think about
these movies.

STAGE 2 – LISTENING ACTIVITIES
First Activity
The teacher gives some information about what will they listen and shows a video to
the students. This video belongs to a movie and they watch one part. Then teacher, pause the
video and asks students what it is about and wants them to guess what will happen next.
Students talk about the possibilities with their friends and the teacher shows another part. He
or she, pause the video again and asks what it is about and what will happen next.
Second Activity
The teacher shows some pictures to students and puts them on the board. Then he/she
wants them to listen to a video which is related to a movie. Then he/she gives some numbers
to the pictures. The teacher gives some information about what will they listen. Students listen
to the video twice. And then they try to guess the numbers of the pictures, because every
picture is related to an event which happens in the movie like a scene. Maybe students are
divided into groups. The teacher gives some names to groups. They try to find answers
together. Every group chooses a volunteer to answer the questions.
Third Activity
Actually, this is my favorite activity. Firstly the teacher divides students into groups
which include 6 people. He/she puts a hula hoop at the center of the class. The teacher gives
some information about what will they listen. Then they listen to a conversation which is a
part of the movie. Then the teacher shows some cards which includes some questions about
the listening. In this competition, first they listen to the video, and then they choose a group
volunteer. The teacher reads the questions out loud and the students run to the hula hoop to
answer the question. The one who jumps into hula hoop first, answer the question first. At the
end of the competition, this time they watched that part of the movie and can see their
mistakes.
STAGE 3 – POST-LISTENING ACTIVITIES
The teacher gives students some worksheets. The students are divided into pairs and
they listen to the conversation and answer the questions on worksheets. At the end of the
lesson the teacher asks students to discuss what types of movies they like and dislike and
explain their reasons with a partner or in a group and decide whether they would recommend
these movies to their friends.

TEACHING LISTENING LESSON PLAN FOR YOUNG LEARNERS

  • 1. MÜBERRA GÜLEK 3/A - 10131040 LESSON PLAN GRADE: 5th GRADE TIME: 40 MINUTES ACTIVITY: TEACHING LISTENING LISTENING POINT: MOVIES & STORIES MATERIALS: Course book, listening texts, movies, movie posters, quizzes, pictures, question cards and one hula hoop. MOVIES: BOLT & ICE AGE AIMS & OBJECTIVES 1. Students will be able to describe people & characters and what people do. 2. Students will be able to express their dislikes. 3. Students will be able to make simple inquiries. 4. Students will be able to state personal opinions. 5. Students will be able to follow slow and carefully articulated speech describing movie characters and movie types. 6. Students will develop an awareness of movies as an international art form and develop positive attitudes towards movies from different countries. 7. Students will be able to develop their motivation and concentration. 8. Students will be able to activate their schemata or previous knowledge. PROCEDURE STAGE 1 – PRE-LISTENING ACTIVITIES Before listening, the teacher asks some questions to get students’ attention by saying “Watching movies is an enjoyable free-time activity whether you’re going to the movies or renting a DVD online to watch at home. Many people go to the movies to relax and enjoy their favorite pictures. What kinds of movies do you like to see and why? Do you buy any snacks at the concession stand at the movie theater? Why or why not?” Then, the teacher shows two movie posters and asks some questions to students about what they think about these movies.
  • 2. MÜBERRA GÜLEK 3/A - 10131040 STAGE 2 – LISTENING ACTIVITIES First Activity The teacher gives some information about what will they listen and shows a video to the students. This video belongs to a movie and they watch one part. Then teacher, pause the video and asks students what it is about and wants them to guess what will happen next. Students talk about the possibilities with their friends and the teacher shows another part. He or she, pause the video again and asks what it is about and what will happen next. Second Activity The teacher shows some pictures to students and puts them on the board. Then he/she wants them to listen to a video which is related to a movie. Then he/she gives some numbers to the pictures. The teacher gives some information about what will they listen. Students listen to the video twice. And then they try to guess the numbers of the pictures, because every picture is related to an event which happens in the movie like a scene. Maybe students are divided into groups. The teacher gives some names to groups. They try to find answers together. Every group chooses a volunteer to answer the questions. Third Activity Actually, this is my favorite activity. Firstly the teacher divides students into groups which include 6 people. He/she puts a hula hoop at the center of the class. The teacher gives some information about what will they listen. Then they listen to a conversation which is a part of the movie. Then the teacher shows some cards which includes some questions about the listening. In this competition, first they listen to the video, and then they choose a group volunteer. The teacher reads the questions out loud and the students run to the hula hoop to answer the question. The one who jumps into hula hoop first, answer the question first. At the end of the competition, this time they watched that part of the movie and can see their mistakes. STAGE 3 – POST-LISTENING ACTIVITIES The teacher gives students some worksheets. The students are divided into pairs and they listen to the conversation and answer the questions on worksheets. At the end of the lesson the teacher asks students to discuss what types of movies they like and dislike and explain their reasons with a partner or in a group and decide whether they would recommend these movies to their friends.
