Do You Need Elevated Work Platform Training?
Why do you need Elevated work platform training ? Well, as well as it being a
legal requirement to be certified in this for a number of jobs, there are the
obvious benefits that you will be less likely to have a dangerous accident.
Elevated work platform training is required by law in Australia for workers who
carry out their work on these, in order for employers be certified by OH&S
(Occupational Health and Safety)
There are different courses available and to find out which one is relevant to
your job, you would need to check with a training company that runs these
types of courses. There are a number of various jobs where you need to be
certified, and it’s also a legal requirement for both employee and the employer
to participate in updates to the training.
Finding accredited instructors to train you in the safe use of elevated work
platforms, and assessors for the subsequent test isn’t too hard in Australia.

2. HUNTER PLANT OPERATOR TRAINING SCHOOL
You’ll find some employers and job agencies offering this training free as well,
in some cases where you’re looking for permanent or seasonal work.
What do you need?
You do need be over 18 to participate in the training.
A basic level of reading and writing skills to be able to read the material in
English.
You also need a photo ID and a secondary ID document.
Scissor lift, Knuckle Boom and Boom Lift operators are only required by the
OH&S acts to obtain a Yellow card, which is valid for work taking place below
11 meters. This training include covers the operation of lifts, risk assessment,
health, and safety. But if they work on elevated platforms, they will need the
additional elevated work platform training.
What do you learn?
Elevated work platform training is based on Australian Qualification
Framework guidelines, offering training on legislation, OHS acts, planning and
carrying out the work, health and safety awareness. Courses also cover the
use of slings, harnesses and the correct use of protective equipment, EWP
orientation and operation.
With this type of training it’s important that the course also go over the
requirements of employees to be “fit to work” when taking the practical test and
carrying out the job. This way employers’ interest is protected.
Usually elevated work platform training course take two days to complete, and
people should be away that in some cases, course trainers might refuse to train
people who are under the influence of medication or drugs ( as well as alcohol ).
Attendees who prove competent are be issued a statement of achievement, and
are then legally allowed to carry out work on elevated platforms.
