2. Botox cosmetic injections are a popular option when it comes to effectively reducing
the early signs of facial aging without significant downtime. When injected into
muscles, Botox paralyzes skeletal muscle tissue and results in static wrinkling. The
underlying tissues are relaxed and wrinkles are significantly reduced, with a dramatic
impact on facial appearance. The treatment is growing in popularity mainly because
it is a non-invasive, relatively safe alternative to surgery, and works effectively to
slow down facial aging.
According to data from American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), Botox topped
the list of cosmetic minimally invasive procedures in 2014 and that demand for the
treatment increased by 6% from 2013. The ASPS report notes that the number of
Botox cosmetic injections was 6.7 million in 2014, up from 6.3 million procedures in
2013 and 786,911 in 2000. The whopping 748% increase in the number of
procedures over the past decade is a clear indication of the growing popularity of the
procedure.
Reports from American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS) also noted
similar trends. ASAPS also found that Botulinum Toxin was the top non-surgical
procedures in 2014. The report also revealed Botox as the top non-surgical
procedure since 2000.
In addition to providing aesthetic improvements, Botox has a range of applications in
alleviating medical conditions such as migraine. When injected into the armpit, it can
result in a significant improvement of hyperhidrosis or hypersecretion of the sweat
glands.
The procedure is always in news. According to First coast news, more and more men
are getting the treatment. A study published late 2014 reported that cosmetic
procedures such as Botox, facial fillers and laser skin treatments are very safe, and
have a low rate of minor side effects which make them a more attractive option than
a surgical facelift.
