Inkjet UV solution for printing variable data such as bar codes, numbers and graphics of high quality in line with flexo and offset presses as well as finishing equipment.
2. What is UV Curable Inkjet Ink?
UV Inkjet Inks are designed to cure or set when exposed to ultraviolet light (between 200 and
400nm on the light spectrum)
• UV Ink Components
Ultraviolet-curable inkjet ink normally is comprised of the following materials:
– Photoinitiators - the ingredient that reacts to the UV energy and cures
– Monomers - control viscosity of the ink
– Oligomers – defines the properties of the ink (elasticity)
– Colorant – determines the color of the ink (pigments or dyes)
– Additives – used to influence the look of the ink
• Benefits
– Cures on many coated paper stocks and synthetic materials
– Cures on top of the substrate creating a solid high quality print
– Very environmentally and work environment friendly compared to solvent technology
3. Curing
• The inks that the MCS Eagle UV use are designed for curing at the 250nm to
400nm light spectrum. The following chart is the output from the Fusion F300
with a D bulb.
5. Terminology
• Curing – The process of changing from a liquid to a solid state
• Bonding – The property of adhering to a substrate after it has
cured
• Dyne Level – A measurement of surface tension of the
substrate and the ink. The dyne level measurement between
the two must be greater than 10 to get even spread of ink.
6. Dyne Level
• If the dyne level in the ink is to close to the dyne level of the
substrate, the ink will bead up, creating perceived lines
through solid techs and graphics.
Dyne Level Difference > 10
Dyne Level Difference < 10
7. Applications
Coated Paper Stocks - Self Mailers
Label Stock
Plastic Cards – Gift Cards, Membership Cards
Packaging – Synthetic Substrates John Doe $25
8. The MCS Eagle UV Advantage
• High Quality – native 600 dpi vertical vs 256 vs 217
• High Resolution – 14pl drop size vs 80pl
• Wide Print Width – 4.25” vs 1 to 2.5” heads
• Simplicity – much easier to use than other systems
• Speed – 166fpm at 600X600dpi, 333fpm at 600X300dpi
9. Conclusion
• While there is no such thing as a perfect inkjet
technology. UV curable inkjet technology
offers the best combination of curing on a
variety of substrates, while offering superior
print quality and production rates.
