Quotes from participants on
  Value Based Leadership
      What did they learn?
I'm so grateful for having participated in
this course. It is different in every way
from the regular leadership courses that
are offered in scouting in my NSO. It is a
great attribute of the course that the
knowledge gained is not only relevant in
voluntary organizations. I can actually
use the knowledge to get a good start
of my professional life. And I can use it
to become a better person. The course
will probably no less than change my
life a bit.
VBL was different from all other leadership
training or courses I've ever had. Due to this,
it can at times be difficult to label it as an
leadership course when explaining to other
people.
At the same time, it was the best leadership
course I've ever taken. I really got to know
myself better and how I act, react and
behave, and also why. Half way through I
sometimes wondered what the leadership
aspects of the course were, but now when
the course is over I can see that it is all
about leadership. I also realize how much I
have learned about others and how I
interpret others.
It has been a life changing journey for me and I'm
unbelievable happy that I applied for the course. I
didn't know what to expect but it was just amazing.
I've learned so much about my self, how I function and
what drives me and what stops me. I've learned the
same about others which has increased my knowledge
in how different we are and how communication can
bridge this differences. How I as an leader can listen
and communicate to support each member of a group
and how to make it move forward. This course has
made me believe in myself and in the future in a way I
wouldn't have believed even if you told me before.
The tools are really great and thought through. To start
with values online and then continue with the IPU,
fears and defenses where good steps towards a self
awareness together with the others in the group. The
reflection and sharing is strengthening.
Many things have changed. At the moment
I am working on my weaknesses, what I
can improve or where I need to flex. I am
more at ease with people I would have
trouble dealing with before now that i
know how to approach them in a more
suitable way. I make a lot more conscious
choices than previously.
I have come to understand so much more
about both myself and my interactions
with other persons. This has changed how
I look especially at others and hopefully
also my behavior towards others. The
things that mostly has helped me is the
openness in the group during the course. I
have over and over again had to reform my
opinion of my fellow participants and this,
more than any session about stereotypes,
norms and labeling, has made me realize
how much I assume of a person from the
little information I have.
It has been an amazing journey, during
which I have gained a lot of self-knowledge
and self-esteem. The course will without
doubt change the path my life will take the
next years. I have regained the motivation
and drive to believe in my own skills and
dare to start new leadership projects. The
knowledge about how others see me and
my improved understanding of why other
people behave the way they do will
improve my leadership skills and my
personal skills.
The change means going from what now
seems like a total ignorance to awareness
and conscious choices. I dare say it has
been next to life altering, not only in terms
of leadership - but also in the way I think
about myself, the future, my dreams.
Suddenly everything feels possible at the
same time as I realize "I can have anything,
but not everything".
Through the course I got a deeper understanding
of my values and behaviors and why I have them.
Through this understanding it was easier to see
how I acted in my relations to others, but also
how I interpret and view others. I realized that I
have a tendency to value people that are similar
to me higher than others, not seeing different
peoples potential and strengths. Before I started
this course, when possible I would have choosen
to work with people that are like me, because I
thought it was the easiest and most efficient way.
Today, I would choose a team that's not like me,
that completes me and are strong at the skills that
I need help with. That is a deep insight and a
powerful tool.
The course raised a lot of emotions,
feelings, thoughts and awareness. In
addition, I feel now more able to develop
and build relationships with people that
are different from me.
Are you curious about what makes
participants write this?

Are you curious about how the secular
Swedish Scouts can run a value-based
leadership course together with the Swedish
Muslims for Peace and Justice?

Are you curious about how Swedish Scouting
managed to put Scouting back onto the
leadership map in non-profit as well as
corporate Sweden?
If so … feel free to drop by at the best
practice tonight at 20.00 in King’s Valley.
