The 3 Most Common Hearing Aid Repairs

Hearing aids will last several years if you
take care of them, but sometimes things
happen that make them not work as well as
they should, leading to fuzzy sound and
other problems. You’ll often need to see
your hearing aid provider to get some
simple repairs that make your hearing aids
as effective as they are designed to be.

                                        1. Cleaning: Most hearing aid problems
result from incomplete cleaning of the
hearing aid. Ear wax can build up on the components, affecting their operation
and resulting in fuzzy sound quality from the hearing aid. Moisture can also cause
bacteria growth inside the hearing aid that eventually can cause damage.
Therefore, many of the problems that need to be repaired actually just require a
more thorough cleaning with professional tools.

2. Tube Replacement: Hearing aid tubes don’t typically last as long as the hearing
aids themselves do. This is one of the easiest hearing aid repairs, and is one you
can even do on your own if you have a simple hearing aid. All that’s involved is
removing an old, brittle, yellow tube and replacing it with a new, clear, flexible
one. You’ll want to order tubes that match the width of the one that came with
your hearing aid and trim them to the right length.

3. Casing Replacement: If your hearing aid takes some physical damage, like being
dropped or squashed under something heavy, this may crack the plastic casing.
Sometimes the components inside are fine, but they just need to be housed in a
new casing or have the existing casing reinforced to provide adequate protection
to the components. Hearing aid repair companies can do this for you.
