2. A look at Sea
Turtles
• A Sea Turtle can
weigh up to 500
pounds, can be 50
inches long and are
slow on land.
• These egg-laying
creatures have no
teeth, and their
strongest sense is
smell.
• Sea Turtles have a
shell that even a shark
can’t bite through!
3. A look at Sea
Turtles
• These egg-laying
creatures have
eardrums that are
covered with skin,
and can swim up
to 20 mph in the
water!
• There are six
different species
of Sea Turtles and
the oldest one
found was 112
years old!
4. A Sea Creature Is Born
An Egg-Laying creature like this
one digs a hole with it’s back
feet, and lays its eggs on sandy
beaches.
A Sea Turtle can lay as many as
100 eggs at a time, and six
clutches a season; that’s 1,000
eggs!
After they've been born two
months ago, the ping pong ball
shaped egg cracks and a small
Sea Turtle pops out.
5. Threats
• Seagulls and
crabs feed on
hatchlings, and
diseases in the
ocean water can
hurt them as well.
• Humans are also
a big threat to Sea
Turtles because
they can pollute,
poach, and hurt
them with nets.
6. Threats
• Sea Turtles have
to find their way
to the ocean by
themselves at just
a couple weeks
old.
• The first ten years
of their life, they
are weak and very
small.
7. A Sea Turtles’
Diet and
Predators
• Sea Turtles eat tons of
meat sources such as
fish, jellyfish, and clams.
• They also devour sea
plants and sponges that
they get from the
bottom of the ocean.
• Predators like raccoons
and fox sometimes dig
up the sea creatures
nest, before they even
have a chance to see the
world around them.
• Animals such as whales
ad dolphins can gobble
up these creatures as
fast as they can swim.
8. Lifespan and Lifecycle
Sea Turtles can live to be 80
years old and can some times
live longer than humans!
The oldest Sea Turtle ever found
was 152 years old; they mature
between 20-30 years old.
These speedy swimmers lifecycle
goes from an egg to being a…
hatchling, juvenile (kid), sub-
adult, and finally an adult.
Breaking through the egg can
take a couple of days.
