How did you use media technologies in the construction and researching, planning and evaluation stages
1. How did you use media
technologies in the
construction and
researching, planning
and evaluation stages?
2. Ways in which we used media
technologies
ï” Media technologies were used throughout the construction and research, planning
and evaluation stages as it is a vital element needed.
ï” There are many ways I used media technologies throughout creating the film trailer,
for example there was the use of mobile phones, music apps such as Garage Band and
Audio Tool, editing softwareâs such as Final cut pro and programmes to create intertitle
and titles such as Motion.
3. Mobile phones
and the internet
ï” During the construction, research, planning and evaluation stages I used my mobile
phone to communicate with Ellie. This was very key to the whole process as I would
use it to contact her and come up with ideas. It was also key to when I needed to meet
the whole cast and tell them what to wear for the filming. This was easy as we created
a group chat in order for everyone to get the message at once and be more organised.
I think my iPhone was too helpful when having spur in the moment ideas as I could
easily jot them down when I needed too, especially when getting feedback from my
teachers on our first edit. I believe IPhoneâs and other mobile phones are key to the
process of creating a production as its easy for the whole group to interact when they
have ideas or need to share locations and remind each other to get the props and
equipmentâs such as the cameras and tripods. The internet was also key as that is
where we created a storyboard during the researching stage as well as researching
locations and creating a plan of when to film. I think that me and Ellie done well
through the communication process, as there was no confusion or conflict into who is
collecting what and when.
4. Garage band
and Audio tool
ï” Through the construction, research, planning and evaluation stages I and Ellie used
music websites and programmes on the Mac to create our music. For example, Garage
Band was a key programme that we used to layer music together. We knew how to
work with this as we used It last year during our AS Film opening. This year, it was
pretty much similar but the only thing we did different was having the combination of
these loops and sounds together with the website Audio Tools music. We put together
the ambient and FX noises that were used under the intertitles with the music that
was made on the online programme Audio Tool. The music was key in the construction
of our production as music is what helps the audience know and get a sense of what is
happening in the trailer. We also searched up loops on google so we can download and
manipulate it into our made music on garage band. All these sounds were important as
they created tension and atmosphere for the audience to identify what type of genre
it is.
5. Final Cut Pro
ï” In the construction, research, planning and evaluation stages I used the main editing
software Final Cut Pro in order to put together the clips and create the film trailer.
Final Cut Pro is quite simple to use as we used it last year during our AS film opening.
Although, we learnt a few tricks such as short cuts like rendering the footage through
the keyboard. This is very useful as it sped things up during the process of construction
and was easier to do. Final Cut Pro also has a few new advantages such as being able
to change the light and zoom into our footage whilst editing it. This again is easy as we
wouldnât have the hassle of uploading it to other softwareâs and changing it. There are
many tools that made the whole process quicker and easier such as the fading tool
and cutting tool as it allows us to manipulate the footage and create something that
fits into a film trailer for example fading in the music to when someone is talking and
cutting up long shots to create suspension throughout the film trailer.
6. Motion
ï” Motion is another key programme that was used during the construction, research,
planning and evaluation stages. Motion was very useful as we manipulated our
footage on there such as changing the light on certain shots so it fits in with the whole
footage as a whole in order to make it look consistent and appealing to the audience.
Motion allowed us to create the tiles and intertitles which are key film trailer
conventions. Although, again, we already knew how to use motion from last years
practice but this time we also learnt a few things like downloading fonts online and
putting it into motion to create our title and intertitle. This was very helpful as we
explored different fonts we liked and could easily change the colour and sizes in order
to suit our trailer. Without motion I think our footage would not be as great as we
needed the lighting as well as the intertitles to fulfil the film trailer conventions.
7. Conclusion
ï” Overall I believe that me and Ellie done well through using media technologies in the
constructing, researching, planning and evaluation stages as we were able to
manipulate our footage, communicate quickly and easily as well as create music from
various of programmes and combine it into one.
