2. MEANINGS.
Drama- Drama is the specific mode of fiction represented in performance.
The term comes from a Greek word meaning "action", which is derived from
the verb meaning "to do" or "to act". – source from ‘Wikipedia’.
Action- Action films are a film genre where action sequences, such as
fighting, stunts, car chases or explosions, take precedence over elements
like characterization or complex plotting. The action typically involves
individual efforts on the part of the hero, in contrast with most war films. The
genre is closely linked with the thriller and adventure film genres. – source

3. HISTORY.
During the period 1920-1930’s a load of films featured as swashbuckling. This is an
action/drama adventure subgenre film that usually consisted of sword fighting and an
adventurous heroic character. The plot to these films normally involved a damsel in distress
and also had romantic elements to the film. A few films that are associated with this subgenre
in this era are ‘The Three Musketeers’ (1921), ‘Captain Blood’ (1935) and ‘The Prisoner Of
Zenda’ (1937).
The 1940’s saw action differently to the past decade. They saw it in a new form through war
and cowboy movies. These movies involved welfare which consisted naval air or land battles.
An example of this is ‘The Wooden Horse’.
However now it’s a different story. As for the 21st century hand-to-hand fighting and martialarts techniques are becoming more and more common . It is widely being used in many action
films.

6. TARGET AUDIENCE
Action and most drama films normally attract males as it is stereotypical for males to be drawn
to violent films. However in our film opening this will not be the case. My target audience is
going to range from adolescents to adults (16-35), but there is always a chance that it may
appeal to an audience over this age range. We as a group has chosen this age range as we
thought of the stereotypical views that action/drama films portray. We also have chosen this
age range as we as a group, as well as our parents, family and friends are within this
demographic therefore making it easier for us to ask others as well as use our own knowledge
to portray the codes and conventions to create action/drama film.
