Editor's Notes
Of course the internet is going to be everywhere. Many of the ideals of the future internet are already being put into placeMobile phones increasingly make the internet ubiquitous. For many old technologies it’s time to move overAnd for us to take the next step.
Just an illustration why the future is NOW = old internet tools are being burried.IE6 is being burried 4th of March – end of an era where ad hoc standards ruled the web.
Many of the ideals of the future internet are already being put into placeMobile phones increasingly make the internet ubiquitous. For many old technologies it’s time to move overSo we have established that a lot of the future internet will be mobile, now what?
The internet of things: originally coined at MIT Medialab – web of interconnected devices. In the ideal vision of the internet of things, all objects will be connected with each other so as to help every day life. E.g. your car will never run out of gas, fridges will be replenished automatically…That is theory. In practice we’ll first have to make things “nodes” of the web. Which is exactly what the touchatag DIY service does.
A USB reader, some paper NFC tags and an internet connection all that’s needed to start tagging the objects around you.All intelligence is in the network – in what we call the “action-correlation service” ACSThis service allows a device that encounters a tag to start a specific action.
Actions can be virtually anything, from opening up a web page, to starting a telephone call, to SMS, to switching the lights in your house on and off and programming your DVR.WE provide the service, the world decides what to do with it. And we encourage people to share their experiences and their apps.
Nothing will stop YOU from tagging the world. Now what if you want to take it 1 step further?
We believe WE don’t know everything. But other people might. So that’s why, next to regular applications we also have a dev API that developers can use to write their own applications. These apps can again be shared with the community.
Very basic model of how custom apps look: blocks of functionality with custom code combine into a new app.The new app also communicates with the ACS, so as to ensure a proper internet of things instead of dozens of homebrew incompatible apps – herewith promoting collaboration in the dev community.
For example: using our API urban games have been set up…
It’s not because we believe in an open environment that everything we do is free.Touchatag is software as a service. SaaS. This means our service can work together with other services and can be sold as a hosted package to interested parties.
One of those hosted services: Mobile Wallet Service.Mobile wallet service is the wallet of the future (using the internet for its communication)Mobile wallet offers:Payment, loyalty services (pluskaart Delhaize etc.), couponing (through mobile advertising etc.) vouchers…
Different contexts, different uses – optimized for fast transactions on mobile, optimized for management on PC
Instead of going over the top we opted to work together with mobile network operators in order to work out these scenarios jointly. This also enables a small venture like touchatag to use the awesome power of a corporation like Alcatel-Lucent to its full extent.
In our view you will soon be paying your bar tab with your phone, ordering tickets anywhere you want, pick up vouchers from billboards and it will not matter where you are.The internet will be everywhere AND the internet will be every thing
