                                                                2) The Zoetrope

    1) Leonardo Davinci The Zoetrope was a rotating dome where the viewer could
experience the illusion of motion from a rapid succession
Leonardo DaVinci was a man well ahead of his time. of static pictures.
In his manuscripts around 1490 he talks about the
‘Camera Obscura’ which was a device that projects
an image of it’s surrounding on a screen.

Leonardo explored what is known as the persistence
of vision
“The eye remembers what it has just seen after the
object has disappeared”

                                                                4) Lumiere Brothers

                                                      5) The Lumiere Brothers took inspiration from the sewing
machine to create a Cinematograph which acts as a
Camera Obscura recording and projecting device.

    3) Leland Stanford

In 1872 Leland Stanford the governor of California
made a $25,000 bet that a horse takes all four feet
off the ground when galloping.

To prove his point he mounted a line of cameras 6)
along a race track and tripped the shutters to picture
                                                                5) The Arrival of the Train
the passing galloping horse.
The first motion picture to be presented to a large audience
was December 28th 1895. The scene depicted a moving
train, the scene startled the audience into a panic as the
film showed the train moving towards them.

Do you think he won or lost the bet?
