A simple sharing analysis using free-space radio wave propagation suggests that nearly 200 km separation is required between a 4G base station and a VSAT terminal. This makes cross border coordination more complex. However, using real terrain profiles with Earth curvature suggests less than 20 km may meet the pfd limit suggested. The 3.4-3.6 GHz is now widely identified for 5G/4G/IMT (after WRC-15). This block of 200 MHz may not be large enough offer the high performance required by IMT-Advanced and IMT-2020/5G in multi-operator environments in some countries. SAMENA believes that operators may well require 100 MHz each to encourage deployment (assuming contiguous TDD). At WRC-15 several Arab administrations proposed a Power Flux Density (PFD) limit for cross border coordination of the 3.6-3.8 GHz band and the identification for IMT (and mobile co-primary). This limit was the same as currently used in 3.4-3.6 GHz. This was not agreed at conference (i.e. 3.6-3.8 GHz was not identified for IMT). If administrations seek to use 3.6-3.8 GHz for IMT/5G in the future, then the inter and intra country protection levels should be considered. This will increase the options available to administrations in the region.

According to ITU-R M.2282-0, a broadband Direct-Air-to-Ground Communications (DA2GC) system constitutes an application for various types of telecommunication services, such as Internet access and mobile multimedia services, during flights. The connection with the flight passengers’ user terminals on board aircraft is realized by already available mobile communication systems on board aircraft. The main application field would be Air Passenger Communications (APC). In addition, a broadband DA2GC system could also support Airline Administrative Communications services (AAC) and thus improve aircraft operation, resulting, in particular, in reduced Operational Expenditure (OPEX) for the airlines. Safety-relevant communications such as Air Traffic Control (ATC) and related services are not intended to be covered. In the past, Boring flights with a slow Internet connection or no connection at all are over. 5G technology should be able provide a reliable Internet connection on aircrafts, making it possible to surf the Web, make phone VOIP calls, or even watch a streaming movie while you’re in flight.

The ever-increasing needs for more spectrum resources, and the emerging new Radio Access Technologies under the 5G umbrella add to the complexity of the Spectrum Toolbox in mobile networks landscape. This article covers 3GPP LTE evolution from Release 8 up to the Release 14, which deals with the LTE-Advanced Pro enhancements. A collection of available frequency bands, spectrum aggregation mechanisms, licensing and duplexing schemes, as well as spectrum sharing and refarming techniques is described. With such a classification, Spectrum Toolbox is defined and its evolution directions are discussed, with the opportunities and challenges of the individual features summarized. Studies on the new non-backwards compatible Radio Access Technology, as well as the new channel models for higher frequency bands are also covered. The presented Spectrum Toolbox is considered as a baseline for the introduction of the new air interface framework towards 5G ecosystem in the context of future mobile networks enhancements. Abstract LTE as a high speed and high bandwidth technology is not expected to supersede 3G but rather to complement it, as consumers’ demand for data is insatiable. Therefore, operators globally are rushing for LTE deployment in order to increase data supply both in terms of bandwidth and speed. In this paper, the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission of Thailand provides the results of LTE deployment field test in order to educate the academia and stakeholders in the telecommunications industry on LTE deployment standards and to contribute to further research on LTE deployment. An end to end LTE system was setup using a 2 x 15 MHz bandwidth in the 1800 MHz band, and measurement were taken to assess system performance and the applicability of LTE system operations. The results of the field test shows that the LTE system has sufficient performance for use in the field. The drive test performed was with only one UE active in the cell. Testing of applications traditional used in a fixed internet protocol network showed that it could provide excellent results even on the LTE system. Abstract— The shortage of spectrum resource availability in wireless communication network due to the rapid increase in the number of subscribers and multimedia applications has given rise to the need for effective spectrum utilization of the licensed spectrum. Cognitive Radio Technology (CRT) was adopted for the system analysis due to its dynamism in accommodating both licensed and unlicensed users within a particular spectrum band. The study framework comprised television station channels in Owerri and its environs and Mobile Telecommunication Networks (MTN) in Owerri- the capital of Imo State, Nigeria as the license and unlicensed users respectively. An outdoor twenty-four hour spectrum occupancy measurement was carried out in the frequency bands of the licensed networks using 240-960 MHz Radio Frequency Spectrum analyzer to determine the spectral usage of the licensed user. A threshold of -95 dB was used to determine the presence of the licensed users. From the results obtained, it was observed that 60.7% of the spectrum band covered was unoccupied, 31.5% was not fully occupied while 7.9% was fully occupied. Energy Detection spectrum approach was implemented by the unlicensed users for easy determination of the spectrum status and resource management. The research therefore determines the status of Radio Frequency (RF) Spectrum receivable in Owerri and its environs and proffer measures deployable in harnessing the unused RF resources using CRT.

This paper presents a novel data and timed control routing protocol which is Flying Adhoc Network (FANET) specific. The developed FANET specific routing protocol laid emphasis on the route connectivity in the network by considering the captured data size, minimum allowable distance between randomly moving nodes and connection time. The performance of the proposed FANET specific routing protocol was simulated using NS3. The obtained throughput value for the routing protocol fluctuated between 742.064kbps and 755.083kbps as data are exchanged between nodes. This showed that when all the UAVs are on the network and communicating with one another, the throughput is flatline and not plummet. This implies consistency as nodes join and leave the network. The packet delivery ratio obtained for the FSRP during simulation was 96.13%. These results implied that data is successfully transmitted between the UAV acting as server and UAV acting as client on the network.

Abstract—Coverage and capacity performance in a cellular network determines the system potentials. If the coverage radius is limited, end users suffer poor service quality, if the system capacity reduces, fewer subscribers will be accommodated. This paper investigated the performance effects of the noise rise caused by the spurious emission from a co-located jammer involving downlink frequency of CDMA2000 and uplink frequency of WCDMA operating at 1.9GHz. Measurements were carried out to evaluate the impact on the coverage radius and the system capacity.
