This document outlines the Step Back Protocol, a 4 step process for facilitating discussion and reflection in a professional learning community. In the first step, one member shares their reflections on what is working well, challenges, and evidence of improved teaching and learning. Then the group asks clarifying questions and provides warm and wondering feedback while the presenter takes notes. Finally, the presenter rejoins the discussion.

Presenter Shares: 5 minutes Decide which member of your group will share their reflections around these questions: As you reflect on your Wednesday PLC efforts, what has been working? What challenges are you facing? Is there evidence that adult learning is translating into improved classroom teaching and learning? Presenter shares--Participants take notes. 2. Clarifying questions (evoke SIMPLE answers) 2 minutes 3. Presenters “steps back” and takes notes while partners reflect together *Warm feedback 2 minutes *”I wonder” feedback 2 minutes 4. Presenters “rejoins” the conversation. 4 minutes
