Akfiler6/7: Recommendation: Option 1
FAS3240HA with IOXM
2 – Quad port 1Gb NICs
2 – Quad port SAS adapters
3 – DS2246 fully populated with 600GB SAS drives.
This will yield 28.84TiB usable. This will provide slight growth in capacity with fewer arms but
that should not be a performance issue. There is a dramatic growth in controller and cache
capacity. The FAS3240 has 16GB of cache and the FAS3050 has 4GB of cache. Both boxes require
the same total 6u in rack space. However we will only require 6u for the disk drives (2u per shelf).
The current configuration requires 27u in rack space for disks (3u per shelf).

We need to confirm that iSCSI and NFS are required. This will also reduce the total number of 1Gb NICs
from 16 to 12.
Akfiler6/7: Option 2 – Probably low cost
I looked at this and with SnapMirror turned on latency jumped to over 10ms. We should probably
NOT propose this.
FAS3240HA with IOXM
2 – Quad port 1Gb NICs
2 – Quad port SAS adapters
3 – DS4243 fully populated with 1TB SATA drives.
This will yield 43.65TiB usable. This will provide significant growth in capacity with fewer slower
arms but we should be OK with 2 drawers (48 drives) dedicated to akfiler7. There is a dramatic
growth in controller and cache capacity. The FAS3240 has 16GB of cache and the FAS3050 has
4GB of cache. Both boxes require the same total 6u in rack space. However we will only require
12u for the disk drives (4u per shelf). The current configuration requires 27u in rack space for
disks (3u per shelf).

in rack space. However we will only require 28u for the disk drives (4u per shelf). The current
configuration requires 63u in rack space for disks (3u per MK shelf and 4u per DS4243 shelf). We
can later add FlashCache, FlashPools or more disk to improve performance.
