3. Assumption for the activity 5.3:
Improvement of the structure of water balance is
essential to limit the negative impact od droughts and
floods.
Development of small retention (limiting of rapid rain
water outflow from the catchmant) significantly
contributes to reaching the above goal.

Cultivation systems shaping water retention in soil profile:

Improvement of soil structure, limitting of drainage, liming, proper agro technology, increase of

• Exchange of experience in scope of implementation of small retention action
plans
• Implementation of „small retention” measures in European countries as an
important element of water management.
• Classification of retention methods in light of its efficiency depending on
topographic, climatic and soil conditions etc.
• Evaluation of methods for recognition of the small retention demand in
catchment, defining of the areas with unfavourable water conditions basing on
GIS methods
• Development of a handbook „Small retention”
