Definitions Difference: The quality or condition of being unlike or dissimilar Similarity: The quality or condition of being similar; resemblance Observe: To be or become aware of, especially through careful and directed attention; notice.  To make a systematic or scientific observation of Trait: A distinguishing feature, as of a person's character
Background Information Names of Animals and Babies: Cat – kitten Cow – calf Deer - fawn, yearling Dog - pup, puppy Giraffe- calf Horse - foal, yearling, or colt (male), filly (female) Lion – cub Zebra - foal
Introduction Questions Do you look like your parents? Do you have the same hair color or eye color? What are some traits you share with your parents?
Matching Find the bag included in this kit that has pictures of animals and their babies. Match the animal to their baby.
Observation Observe the similarities and differences between the animals and their young. How are they alike? How are the different? Are they the same size?
Grouping Group the animals in different ways: Put all babies together. Match up the animals and their babies. Sort them by what type of animal they are. What are some other ways to group them? __________________________ __________________________ __________________________
Pick One Now pick out one animal and their baby Observe the differences and similarities closely. Find the worksheet labeled “Look Alikes?” Complete the worksheet by following the instructions. Use the crayons provided to color your pictures of the animal and their baby.
Sharing Share your picture and facts with a friend or a relative. See if they can spot any other differences or similarities. Quiz them on some differences or similarities with a different animal you observed in this kit.
Another fun activity After you have completed the activity you can use the animal cards to play a matching game. Flip over all the cards and play just like a regular matching game.  To score you must match the animal to their baby.  The game is over when all animals and their babies have been paired up.
