Thanks for coming today. I want to start off with a few comments about the session. Almost all the sessions here at FFT in some way could be thought of as web sites for workplace productivity…learning about Skype or LinkedIn, or Lulu. Those are all web sites that help you do things that in some way help boost your productivity. The way I conceived of this session was very similar to the commercial on TV now for Apple that poses a question and answers, “there’s an app for that.” I thought about the kinds of things we need to do in our jobs and then looked for sites that help us achieve those tasks. So most of the slides begin with “Need to…” I tried to keep it simple and purposely didn’t include sites that required login, account creation, or the installation of software or browser extensions. Some of the sites I show you will allow you to do MORE at their sites by registering and logging in. That’s up to you to decide if you want more from the site later on. And a word of caution, just once at the beginning of the session about any of the sites you are about to see. When using any of these sites, be careful about what information you are putting out on them and sharing. Be sure it isn’t anything confidential and/or RIT critical. Some of you may be familiar with some of these sites already. I tried to choose sites in categories that the majority of potential attendees would get the most use of. Since this is the first time this session is being offered, let me know in your evaluation comments if you think it would be worth repeating as a walk-in workshop during the academic year.
