Bulimia is an eating disorder where a person eats a large amount of food and then purges it from their body, usually by vomiting or laxative abuse. It is caused by societal pressures to be thin, family genetics, and stress as a way to feel in control. Signs include excessive exercise, frequent bathroom trips after eating, swollen cheeks or bloodshot eyes from vomiting. Treatment involves therapy, behavioral changes, nutrition counseling, and sometimes antidepressant medication.
