Shiites make up 10-15% of all Muslims and believe that only the descendants of Muhammad's cousin and son-in-law Ali, known as Imams, are the rightful successors to Muhammad as leaders of the Muslim community. Shiites attribute themselves to the teachings of Muhammad and believe his family and descendants have special spiritual authority over Muslims. Shiite Islam branches into three groups, with the largest being neutrality and the other two being Ismaili and Zaidi.
