Darren swings at a golf ball on the ground with a velocity
of 10 feet per second. How long was the ball in the air?
    We’re going to use the following formula to solve this equation.

      H(t)=Height object ends at
       h= Height object starts at
     g=Acceleration due to gravity
           v=Initial velocity
                t=Time
Problem #1
Darren swings at a golf ball on the ground with a velocity
of 10 feet per second. How long was the ball in the air?
    We’re going to use the following formula to solve this equation.

      H(t)=Height object ends at
       h= Height object starts at
     g=Acceleration due to gravity
           v=Initial velocity
                t=Time
H(t)=0 (Since we know that the golf ball will hit the ground eventually.)
      h=0 (Since the golf ball was hit when it was on the ground.)
g=32 ft. (The acceleration due to gravity is always either 32 ft. or 9.8m.)
                 v=10 ft. (As told to us by the problem.)
                t=??? (This is what we have to find out.)
The Values

        H(t)=0 (Since we know that the golf ball will hit the ground eventually.)
              h=0 (Since the golf ball was hit when it was on the ground.)
       g=32 ft. (The acceleration due to gravity is always either 32 ft. or 9.8m.)
                        v=10 ft. (As told to us by the problem.)
                       t=??? (This is what we have to find out.)
(0) = -1/2(32)t²+(10)t+(0)
                        0 = -16t² +10t+0
Now we need to find the a, b, and c values of this quadratic.

                                      a = -16
                                      b = 10
                                       c=0

       And now we plug those values into the quadratic formula.
Plug in the values
                  (0) = -1/2(32)t²+(10)t+(0)
                        0 = -16t² +10t+0
Now we need to find the a, b, and c values of this quadratic.

                                      a = -16
                                      b = 10
                                       c=0

       And now we plug those values into the quadratic formula.
Solve

                t=              t=
        We know that the time wasn’t 0 sec. so we discard
         that solution and say that the time was about
                            5/8 sec.
Quadratic Formula

  Solve

                    t=              t=
            We know that the time wasn’t 0 sec. so we discard
             that solution and say that the time was about
                                5/8 sec.
