Global
Environment
Facility

Financial
mechanism
unites
182
member
governments
—
in
partnership
with
international
institutions,
nongovernmental
organizations,
the
civil
society
and
the
private
sector
-‐
to
address
global
environmental
issues.
Born
in
1991,
today
the
GEF
is
the
largest
public
funder
of
projects
to
improve
the
global
environment.
An
independently
operating
financial
organization,
the
GEF
provides
grants
for
projects
related
to
different
focal
areas:
biodiversity,
climate
change,
international
waters,
land
degradation,
and
persistent
organic
pollutants.
