*A revolution is the overthrow and renewing of a government by force.

2. The Magna Carta...
was written for England.
was written in 1215.
limited the power of the Monarchs, by making
them abide to laws and began the formation of
a powerful parliament.
was a form of rule of law because every man
had to abide to the laws and was not better
than it.

3. The
Glorious Revolution...
• took place in England.
• William of Orange took over as
King of England.
• the Magna Carta changed the
power of Kings and was a
result of the Glorious
Revolution.

4. The English Bill of Rights...
was written in the year 1689.
was enacted on December 16, 1689.
The English Bill of rights granted fundamental
liberties to the citizens of England and prohibited the
King from suspending laws and levying taxes without
approval from the Parliament. Also it prohibited the
King from housing an army in times of peace and
prevented the recurrence of a division of religion by
preventing the Monarch from being Roman Catholic.

5. The Enlightenment...
was a period of time where Europe embraced
reason, knowledge, truth and freedom. Also it
place a heavy emphasis science, logic, and reason.
took place in the 18th century.
was important because it gave people a look on the
world that was less religious, a belief in progress,
and it promoted the importance of the individual.

6. Charles-Louis
Montesquieu...
• was from France.
• was best known for coming up
with the idea of the separation
of powers and three branches
of government.

7. John Locke
• was from Wrington, England.
• lived from 1632 to 1704.
• said that every person has the
right to life, liberty, and
property. He believes that every
man has these natural rights,
whether law states it or not.

8. Jean Jacques
Rousseau...
• is from Geneva.
• lived from 1712 to 1778.
• wrote “The Social Contract” to
explain his belief that man was
corrupting. His solution was for
man to join in on a social
contract and live under laws
they made themselves.

9. Thomas Jefferson
• is from the United States of
America.
• is most famous writing the
Declaration of Independence.
• changed the word “property” to
“pursuit of happiness” because
he wanted to put stress on the
overall goal of society as a
human expression.
