This was an experiment in a grade 5 class to find new acid base indicators.

1. OS,KENT EXPERIMENT ACID-BASE INDICATOR OF SCIENCE

2. PROBLEM We wanted to find out what juice change color when we put acid or base like cabbage juice.

4. METHOD 1. Put the water in the pot. 2. Put the material in the pot. 3. Boil (each item separately). 4. Put the boiled juice in a separate container. 5. Divide each container in half. 6. Put vinegar and baking soda ineach bottle.

5. OBSERVATIONS

6. It didn’t change it’s color. It stayed the same!!!

7. It didn’t change it’s color – same result as carrot juice.

8. It made a big change. First, it was brown, then it changed to red when we added The acid (vinegar) And then it changed to green when we added the base (baking soda).

9. It made a big change like the rose juice. First, It was dark purple, and then it changed into purple when we added theacid and it changed to dark green when we added the base.

10. It made a little change.. First, It was light brown (like rose juice), and then it changed into orangey red when we added the acid and it changed to brownish green when we added the base.

11. It was also a good acid-base indicator. First, It was a grapey color (like black bean), then it changed Into cherry red when we added acid and it changed to super dark green when we added the base.

12. This was totally not an acid-base indicator. It didn’t change color!!!!!

13. It didn’t change color but, it changed it’s brightness. (acid made bright color and base made dark color like cola !)

14. REFLECTION Next time we want to check the temperature of the water we boil. We will also be careful to put the same amount of vinegar and baking soda for each vegetable. Next time we will make a better experiment but we learned many things from this experiment – we are just beginner scientists (le~~arners) !!!

15. CONCLUSION From this experiment we learned some other foods that can be used as acid-base indicators.

16. RESEARCH We found that most food acid-base indicators contain anthocyanin. Wealso found that there are other things that make color change ( like metal ).
