1. Finite Resource Reflection
Global Inquiry:
I learned that “finite” means a set amount that can run out. Some
examples of finite resources include oil, coal, gas and wood. It is
important to conserve fossil fuels because the factories make pollution,
the resource runs out and collecting them harms the habitat. Some
alternative energy sources are wind, solar and water. While investigating
the coal industry, the most interesting thing I learned was the world
uses 5.3 billion kg of coal each year.
Local Inquiry:
During my Home Energy Audit, I discovered that I don’t switch the
electricity off from the wall so, I set goals to switch electricity from
the wall. During our BISS Energy Audit, we discovered many problems,
such as teacher do not switch off the light when they are not in the
classroom, not switching off the air conditioner and wasting paper. So,
we set a goal to collect the paper and recycle it around the school.
Taking Action:
School Conversation Campaign
It is important to reduce, reuse and recycle paper because paper is
made of trees and trees give us air and stop the pollution the most
important thing is that it can destroy habitats. First we made recycle
boxes, then we talked to the classes, finally, we collected the paper and
sent it to the recycling center. It was difficult to explain to the
students because I was nervous.
I enjoyed this action because I can have fun and also save the planet.
If I took a different environmental action, I would like to use less coal
by using other energy instead of coal.
Environmental Music Video
We use persuasive language techniques in our lyrics, such as repetition
and rhetorical questions. I think the most persuasive line in the lyrics is
“Don’t you want to save the earth, don’t you want a greener world.”
Because it make me think of what it is like in a world that has many
trees. While working on the movie, I learned that a green screen is a
very good back ground to use. I enjoyed making this video because I can
dance with my friends. If I did another music video, I would make one
about saving coal because coal is running out very fast.
What else?
During this natural forces unit I especially enjoyed the recycling paper
project. After this unit, I will continue to read books about coal.
