If you think right now “Did he read the memo about business casual?” – then the answer is YES. THIS IS business casual in our lab – especially during Oktoberfesttime. Want a job? Sign up today
It is October Fest Time. The cool thing about this is that it is a cultural event celebrated for more than 200 years . It is celebrated by “everyone around the world” …
… the locals make sure that it is not only about drinking beer but also about keeping up great old traditions such as folks musik
Everybody is joining in – young and old
… and Bavarians are not even locking out other species - everybody is welcome
Whether sun or rain – enjoying a Mass of Beer works in Every Environment!
Many people figure out it is more fun and there is more to achieve when working together – AS A TEAM!
Doing things as a team also means to share the same good – but – also bad sides: such as bad headaches
Whats important is that people stay civilized – even in times of big pain and “pressure”
Last Monday was my first time at Oktoberfest. While waiting for my friends in the hotel lobby I picked up a brochure that contained some facts about Oktoberfest 2013. It said:
6.3M visitors
6.3M Liter of Beer
1 Lost Segway
350 Lost Smartphones
800 Lost Wallets
8 Lost kids -> probably more that were conceived
Alright – now - how does this relate to APM?
Can we learn anything from the Oktoberfest Culture?
First of all: We need to change that attitude – we need to build a better culture
DevOps provides some great guidelines on what we need to change
#1: It is about teamwork
#2: It is something we do in every environment: Dev, Test, Production
#3: It is about sharing the good and the bad things
#4: It is about staying civilized and organized to become efficient
#5: It is something for EVERYONE -> even the one guy with the lederhosen
Our goal is APM for Everyone. It should become as easy as ordering a beer at Oktoberfest
We learned that having an active community is key to success -> for that reason we also hand out Awards later this week.
We encourage people to share – and value what they are sharing with us
