This document provides 10 suggestions for improving knowledge sharing and engagement within a government agency. It recommends engaging with potential job candidates on social media, targeting passive job seekers, rethinking traditional training and conferences through virtual options, implementing virtual career fairs and mentorship programs, encouraging internal collaboration and emergency planning, having a regular content publication plan, and measuring the effectiveness of different engagement strategies. Additional resources from GovLoop on using social media and their guide library are also referenced.
20. Opportunity
“As a first step in conference planning, an agency
should confirm that physical collocation of Federal
employees in a conference setting is a necessary and
cost-effective means to carry out the agency’s mission
(and that other, lower-cost options, such as
videoconferencing, have been explored).”
24. It all started with the first ever Intelligence
Community Virtual Career Fair in March 2010
[which] spurred the idea of Skype interviews,
to go along with the ‘virtual’ theme of the career
fair and show NGA as a forward thinking agency
on the cutting edge of technology

Let’s look at the size of the potential audience you can reach with social media Many of your organizations likely have one or more Twitter feeds. If Twitter ’ s user base was a county, it ’ s population would be 500 million, which is bigger than Russia, Ukraine and Kazakhstan
If Facebook were a country, it would be larger than north and south america combined, with a user base of 1 billion.
If email were a country, It would be an empire with 3.2 Billion users. There are many reasons email sticks around, but just look at it’s sheer size in user base.
