What started as a challenge in going to haiti for a month in july last year, has now become a collaboration that will, who knows, even end in sending the first SCI paralympic team to london next year.
First i would like to introduce the two groups involved in this project:
The team thtat left switzerland for a month in haiti consisted of a pt/ ot/ nurse/ doctor and health scientist. These are just a few of our first impressions we considered as barriers in future SCI rehabilitation
But there were also a lot of positive things we found during our work at the clinic
After our month was over, in numerous discussions with the local physiatrist and the HHA founder, we decided to collaborte with HHA on a longterm basis. It was obvious to everyone involved, that SCI rehab couldnât only be done for the earthquake victims, that there were a lot more such patients to come and that there was more need in education for the haitian staff. For our work, we defined the following milestones:
**We have had the haitian physiatrist stay with us for one month. A english pt who will be volunteering at HHA will come stay with us for a week and we are already planning for a haitian nurse to come stay with us.**
