The document proposes encouraging a more plant-based diet in the US to benefit both health and the environment. It suggests that reducing meat consumption by just 5% could save enough grain to feed 25 million people. The proposal is to campaign for everyone to consume 20% less meat per week through ads targeting different age groups and celebrity endorsements, which could significantly impact global issues like hunger and climate change.
2. encourage a more fruit/grain/vegetable based diet for everyone Of course everyone has a choice about what they eat, but parents and teachers should encourage conversation about what kids are eating and how these eating habits are contributing to and exacerbating global warming and hunger. America needs to stop the cycle of teaching their children poor eating habits, they are not sustainable and totally unhealthy It's no use feeding people, if you're feeding them food that contributes to ill health, unhealthy citizens are expensive! More veggies= lower cholesterol Less meat= cheaper to eat predominantly vegetables (Two birds one stone....although no birds were harmed in the making of this presentation)
3. The idea is sustainability... a vegetarian/mostly vegetarian diet is far more sustainable than a diet which consists of too much meat. "If each American reduced his or her meat consumption by only 5 percent , roughly equivalent to eating one less dish of meat each week , 7.5 million tons of grain would be saved, enough to feed 25 million people -roughly the number estimated to go hungry in the United States each day." -http://www.worldwatch.org/node/1626

5. Something has to change. Letâs start with our diet. Such a small sacrifice for such major change.
